Smile Product Images in Visio

Hi,

I have been trying to figure out why some of my products will not show their images in Visio, but some however will. When I try to add a product that is'nt working it will ask me to choose a shape, and if i push cancel nothing happens. I have figured out that if i change the category of the product without an image, lets say it's in Remotes, to a different category, say Speakers, it will start showing the image on the page.

I am rather new to d-tools so i imagine that there's a simple solution to the problem... And yes, I have added the images to the database.

Hi,

If you drop a product (from your PDM or Product Explorer) to the "Line Diagram" view Visio will check if the product has an image in the MMPD database. If it does find an image in MMPD it will use a "Line Image" shape and display the associated product image.

The key to getting the image to show is --

1. Product must exist in MMPD (it must match on Category, Manufacturer + Model). So if you change the Category or Manufacturer or Model you break the link to MMPD.

2. You must drop to the Line Diagram view from the PDM or Product Explorer (or use the "Line-Image" shape from a stencil and select a product).

If you edit a product and change it image you can update the image on the "Line Image" shape by doing a right click on shape and going to D-Tools | Refresh Data from MasterTable.

Hope this helps.

If the product exists in your MasterTable (must match on Category, Manufacturer and Model) and has a image defined the Image should show up on the Line view when dragged from PDM or Product Explorer
If your product is in the PDM Edit the product (right click and Edit) and check if you can see the image. If not try and add a image and save (images always save to masterdatabase). Then drag the product from PDM to Line page and you should see the image.

Also make sure the product has specified dimensions... Otherwise Visio assumes the product has 0" x 0" x 0" dimensions and nothing will display except a small line.

That shouldn't happen in a LINE drawing. Almost none of my products have dimensions and they show up just fine.

Didn't realize Soundline was working with just the Line Drawing.

Oh - he didn't say that. I was just posting that for claification. He did mention he was rather new to D-Tools and I figured most "newbies" start with line drawings.
