Default Changing Wire Properties

I have read a few posts regarding how to change the properties using the 'show shapesheet' under the window menu. What I am wanting to do is change the properties such that they are the same when they are dropped into the floor plan. I've done it in the floor plan, but it doesn't seem to stay. Is there someplace else to accomplish this, like the MMPD?

Also, I would like to change the layer it comes in on. I see the field on the shapesheet where it ought to go, but when I change it, nothing happens.

The shapes are tied to what category they are assigned to. If you are customizing your shapes and want to change the layers (or customize the layers) you will need to create a category titled whatever your layer name will be and change the devices in the MMPD to that newly named category.
