Default Plan Speaker Shape W/Dispersion mini contest $100

I will put this out to anyone but you will need some mad Visio skillz to make it happen. I will try as well but I have a full plate with our CRM/SFA/ERP conversion going on.

$100.00 Amazon gift cert to anyone who can do it or the best version if I get multiple attempts.

Here is the deal. We created a Sonance speaker shape a while back that had an adjustable dispersion pattern. I want to take our existing plan speaker shape and add a dispersion pattern that like the Sonance version but instead of having the angle be adjustable I want it to be adjusted by the user.disp cell and the angle of the dispersion adjustable by a control handle. A lot of in wall speakers have adjustable inner speakers.

The dispersion pattern should be mathematically correct. So if a speaker had a 45 degree dispersion pattern and a 10' ceiling height ithe dispersion pattern would display correctly. Not sure of the exact math but I think the Sonance speaker has the formulas in it.

I have enclosed a stencil with both shapes.

Post any questions and results.

Good luck.

Adam,

Thanks for the challenge. I hope I can find some time to take a whack at it. So, let me get this straight...
  1. You want a plan shape with a dispersion pattern for use on an elevation page? (I'm sure I've misinterpreted this)
  2. You want the dispersion cone angle (not direction) to be adjusted by the user.disp cell (the dispersion field of the shape's "specs" tab?
  3. You want the direction of the dispersion to be adjusted by a control handle?

avzone:

Actually, that is a good point. I was not clear, for this contest I want a plan dispersion pattern that changes the dispersion shape based on the ceiling height and the dispersion pattern of the speaker. So a larger ceiling height would broaden the dispersion pattern and a smaller dispersion pattern would narrow it.

Also I want a control handle to adjust the "tilt" of the speaker so the dispersion pattern would move in a constrained manner maybe +- 30 degrees in any direction.

Extra credit and extra $100.00 cert if you do the same thing with an elevation version of the shape.

<spock>

A speaker sends out sound in a cone, so when a cone gets sliced by a plane (the ceiling, wall or floor), you get a "conic section", which we learned about in trigonometry.

So logic would dictate that the dispersion pattern would then be a circle, ellipse, hyperbola or parabola.

Fascinating...

Uhhh..... I think the "conic section" is only valid on the elevation shape of a speaker where you are looking at the cross section, sliced vertically of the dispersion pattern. In that case it would resemble a cone.

In the case of an elevation view of the dispersion pattern I think a circle would be the most appropriate.

Does that help or did my lack of actual trig knowledge lead me to misunderstand the question?
