Default Schematic View For A Package

Hey Guys. I created a package with about 10 pieces of equipment and 7 wires. I have designed a schematic of it in visio. Is there a way so that when ever I drop this package into visio, it will retain this schematic layout?

It will not, but you can create a template in visio that you can import using the D-Tools Insert sytem that will remember everything as you have created it now. It will even bring the items into the proposal, as well as the schematic drawing.

You can even use this current project in the future, and only bring in the schematic page.

Default Schematic

OK... I think I understand.... so instead of Just making a package with all of the gear in it..... I need to actually make a project with that package in it that will include all the drawings? Is that what you mean by a "template" in visio?

Yes, "template" is a little misleading. You would essentially be creating a standard project with the package that you repeatedly use by importing it into a new project each time.

How is that misleading?

Definition of Template per the Dictionary.

"Template - A document or file having a preset format, used as a starting point for a particular application so that the format does not have to be recreated each time it is used."

If you save a particular Project layout in Visio to reuse in the future using the Insert System, it is essentially a template.

Is that from The American Heritage dictionary or Webster? I'm not criticizing you or saying you're wrong, just trying help keep things from getting lost in translation. Call it "Visio-specific" technical clarification, if you will. A Visio template file has a file extension of .vst. Importing a visio project file has an extention of .vsd. That's what I was referring to.

This would be a great feature to have, but I don't know how they would go about implementing it.
