Default Product Replacement

When I am changing an item, I use the "replace item" function. I would like to see a feature that allowed the accessories of the item being replaced to be carried over to the new item.

For Example: Replacing a 6" IC Speaker that has wire and bracket as accessories with another 6" speaker. I need the same accessories for the new speaker.

Perhaps there could be a prompt on the replacement that asks, "keep accessories?"?

...maybe?

This would be great. From a business process perspective this is pretty important and from an efficiency standpoint. Let's say that you already wired a house and installed brackets, etc. Later the client decides to upgrade his speakers. For simplicity sake let's say you are upgrading from on 8" Speakercraft to another 8" Speakercraft speaker. Wire is in place, the bracket is the same. You pulled 150 ft of wire. You choose "Replace Product" and knowing your database is RAD you know the correct accessories are already associated with the new item. You include tham and move on. Later, you can't figure out why your change order values seem alittle weird and why is it that you are deleting 50ft of speaker wire. Hmmm... confusing.

IMHO, many feature requests are pretty questionable, this is not one of those. Great feature. Honestly a must have for me. I have spent countless hours working around this. I hate doing it and errors are bound to happen.

MUST HAVE FEATURE:

I too would like this feature.

I have spent too many hours changing items over... I have given up on accessories for many items that I suspect could change due to this limitation. The reports are less impressive and less informative due to this shortcut/work-around.

Naresh - bump that up the list a little bit?

Frye - Exactly my point with your example! Not to mention that the accessories are updated from MDB, which means the wire or bracket prices are changed, and all of the sudden you have a change order in price for an item that was installed a year ago? Having to make sure the exact same wire, price, comp ID, and length are exact to avoid this was a pain! I'm shocked this wasn't asked for a long time ago....

Yes, in the midst of our blind rage over this sort of program behavior we forget to ask for the fix!

Just to make sure I undersand this correctly --

1. Product A has 2 accessories C and D in a project.

2. Product A is replaced by Product X which has 2 accessories Y and Z in MMPD

3. User checks "Keep Accessories" in replace. Code would not delete Accessory C and D and not prompt for Y and Z either. Basically X would now have C and D as accessories.

4. User does not check "Keep Accessories" in replace. Code deletes Accessory C and D and prompt for Y and Z.

Yes! Best feature since adding AutoCAD.

I would like to consider slightly different functionality:

1. Product A has 2 accessories C and D in a project.

2. Product A is replaced by Product X which has 2 accessories Y and Z in MMPD

3. User checks "Keep Accessories" in replace. Code would not delete Accessory C and D and will prompt for Y and Z. Basically X would now have C and D as accessories and the option for Y and Z.

Step three might have two check boxes: "Keep Accessories" & "Prompt for New Accessories".

4. User does not check "Keep Accessories" in replace. Code deletes Accessory C and D and prompt for Y and Z.

Examples of where this is useful might be in replacing Product A after accessory C and D have been installed in an earlier Phase and Product X requires another accessory like a specific mount.

Another example is replacing an OFE TV with a new TV that has an eWaste Fee associated with it. If you forget the eWaste fee you just gave away $25. The OFE TV might have a new mount associated with it but would not have the eWaste fee...
