Default Bug or feature request Hmm....

Say you have a project with 25 rooms. You would expect said project to have many many parts so you click the filter icon and select the room(s) you are working on currently. You realize that you want to find a specific part in those rooms so you type in the part number into the search field at the top of the PDM. You find the part and make your changes then want to go back to just the rooms that you had selected earlier. If you remove the part number then click the blue back arrow button next to the search field at cancels all your filters.

Is there a way to clear the search without canceling the filters?

Or

can I request that feature?

What do you mean by the "blue back arrow button next to the search field"?
I don't see this in my filter dialog box.

My filter allows me to choose rooms then choose a search term. Then I can return to the filter, remove the search term, and the rooms I chose previously are still selected.

I am running 5.5.378 so I guess that feature is in the latest SP.
Still, what you are describing works in my version.

The "Free Form" search and the "Filter" work independently in SP2. This is recorded as a feature request #6928.

If it's not working, it's a bug. If it's working in an odd way, it's a feature

I think it is fair to say that this is typically the case but in defense of our esteemed development team, I don't believe "free form" search existed prior to SP2.
