Default PDM panes

implement two "panes" in the PDM grid.

The idea is that you would be able to create one pane (lets say pane one is positioned on the left) and include user defined "primary" columns. For example: Manufacturer, Model, Component ID. The second pane would contain user defined "secondary" columns. for example: any other column that you would want to look at.

Each pane would support independent horizontal scrolling but vertical scrolling would be linked as one. This would allow you to easily identify the item in the primary pane but freely look at addition information in the secondary pane.

This is similar to how the “included in drawing” icon column and package expansion column are fixed and this feature might just give the user the ability to add certain primary columns to that fixed grouping.

Also similar to using split panes in Microsoft Excel. A “frozen” option for the primary pane would also help.

I'm not entirely sure what you are after here but I would think the vertical scrolling should Not be linked, but manually controlled by the user. If this feature were available one of the ways I would see it being used is to compare two different rooms or areas of the PDM. When I use a program that supports multiple windows that is one of the things I am most frequently doing - comparing *different* things.

scrolling is controlled by the user. im saying "linked" meaning that when you scroll up and down in the grid the two panes stay vertically alligned.

My intent is allow the user to easily see that primary info on the left of the grid is lined up with secondary info on the right. this is a VERTICAL division of the PDM. im trying to avoid a situation where you have to scroll left, select objects your interested in, scroll right, look at information, make edits, repeat.

it sounds like you would want a HORIZONTAL division as well. so you could compare two seperate sections of the project. I can see a use for this as well, or seperate PDM windows.
