scrolling is controlled by the user. im saying "linked" meaning that when you scroll up and down in the grid the two panes stay vertically alligned.

If this feature were available one of the ways I would see it being used is to compare two different rooms or areas of the PDM. When I use a program that supports multiple windows that is one of the things I am most frequently doing - comparing *different* things.

My intent is allow the user to easily see that primary info on the left of the grid is lined up with secondary info on the right. this is a VERTICAL division of the PDM. im trying to avoid a situation where you have to scroll left, select objects your interested in, scroll right, look at information, make edits, repeat.
it sounds like you would want a HORIZONTAL division as well. so you could compare two seperate sections of the project. I can see a use for this as well, or seperate PDM windows.
