Default MMPD Download Data Options

It would be nice in addition to the existing options there was a way to update fields on existing products only if the field is empty or blank, rather than just overwriting it. It would also be nice to compare the local and download data and show any conflicts side by side at a glance before choosing weather to update/overwrite existing data or not.

Bfourney,

Regarding the last part of your post, this is defintely something we will consider for future revisions of EZmatch. Can you elaborate more on your first sentence? I need more details to fully understand it.

For instance if I already have a product in my database, either downloaded or manually entered. I go check the D-Tools downloads and maybe there is some updated info on the already downloaded product, or a product that was manually entered was recently added to the products available for download. I want to download the new data, but only if an item or field is blank since I may have adjusted certain fields and don't want to overwrite them.

Maybe I have a bunch of products that I never entered the dimensions, MSRP, and I/O list, but I have entered and want to keep my description and labor hours. I can go through and check/uncheck the items that I want to download for a product which can vary on each one and is very prone to operator error if you don't know exactly what you're doing. A simpler way would be an "Overwrite Existing Data" option. This way I can disable that option to keep downloads from overwriting anything that I may have updated/corrected myself, but get the benifit of updating any fields that don't have any data already.

Bfourney,

Thanks for the follow up and detailed response. Just to clarify; The Download Options checkboxs are not a suitable solution to this problem? This allows you to update only some fields during the download and update process. Let me know... thanks.

Yes, the options are not suitable because you still have to worry about the options overwriting data. At best you have to go back and forth from the downloads tab to the product explorer tab to see what the differences are and check the right options so you don't accidentally overwrite anything. The is a little bit tedious if you're just checking one product or something, but if you're checking your entire product list it's just unbearable.

The extended data I figured out is not linked to any downloaded data, but the product Manufacturer>Category>Model - the only downside to this is that if you need to change the model number the link to extended data disappears, and if you need to change the category of an item the link breaks.
