Default cant create (or open) visio files after upgrade

Hi, I've had this happen a couple times already but cant find any information about it. I had 5.2 running fine and crating Visio files without a problem, I upgraded to 5.5 and now the New Visio file is grayed out. I have a 5.2 CD so I decided to start over, uninstalled SI5.5, re-installed with my cd 5.2 and there was Visio files again, Used it for a few weeks until today I decided to give it a second try, and same thing happened. cant open or create Visio or DWG files.
I only have the Desktop Componets installed. no server.

Any one else having this problem?
Thanks.
Allan.

Are you using a Pro license or Estimator license? It seems like you are using an Estimator key and that's why you can't create any drawings.

thanks Jose, I did notice that is the problem, I am running pro licence since I can do everything on 5.2. I did a windows restore and now It's working again (except it now crashes when i try to do a report) but when I upgrade to 5.5 it switches to the Estimator license.
But I have done the fresh install a couple times and it does the exact same thing. Is there somewhere I can download a full 5.5 install and then just use my serials? I was planning on installing the 5.5 trial with my serial, will that work?

Thanks.
Allan.

Default Urgent Help

I'm still not being able to run the pro version of d-tools, for some reason whey I updated to 5.5 it got my estimator license instead of the Pro License that was Running just fine on 5.2.
Now every time I try to reinstall, it doesn't allow me to type the pro license, it just takes the estimator by default, and there is no way to upgrade to pro!!! please Help. I've been with this for a week and need to turn in a proposal.

Thanks.

Allan.

Hi,

You have probably used an incorrect CD-Key (you may have used the Business Manager CD Key) when in the 5.2 install.

Follow these steps -
1. Uninstall SI 5 desktop components (5.2 or 5.5 whatever you have)
2. Install 5.2 with D-Start | D-Tools | Installation Utility
3. Make sure you type the SI 5 Professional Client CD Key here (if you do not have this CD-Key contact support and ask for the SI 5 Professional Client CD Key).

This should work OK. Basically make you install 5.2 with the SI 5 Professional Client CD Key (and not Estimator, Business Manager or Server)

Thanks Naresh,

I did Have the 5.2 pro version working fine (so i did put the pro licence in), My problem is when I upgrade to 5.5 it Switches the licence to estimator, The package I bought came with a Server, Estimator and a Pro licence.

When I tried to install the server on that computer it crashed over and over. on the las SQL installation part (where the green chekmarks start apearing) after a few tries I decided to install Standalone Pro Licence.

When I was installing this, I did type the wrong serial (Estimator) but notice the mistake and went back and install it with the Pro license. So here I had the 5.2 Pro working just fine.

When the 5.5 update came out I just did the update but it automatically changed the licence to Estimator, I don't know if it gets it from the dtools server or if it stayed stored on my computer when i entered it wrong the first time I installed the software

The problem Is that now, even If I uninstall and install again It doesnt ask for a licence and goes back to Estimator, I dont know if there is a way to change the licence if I can delete a file where the licence is stored so it asks for it again or what.

Thanks again for the help.
Allan.

Allan:

If you are installing SI5 with no LANSync to connect to, it will only install as Estimator as the Pro requires LANSync in order to give you all the features. One thing you could do is backup your SQL files and Project files, completely remove SQL and wipe all the install folders under Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server reinstall SI5.2 server and re-attach the SQL databases, then try to upgrade back to Si5.5.

Allan:

I mean to post this link also - http://www.support.d-toolsblog.com/m...nents-machine/

It shows you what files need to be backed up for SQL how to re-attach them. Treat it as a server move.
