This is a heads up for others that may run into this issue while updating a 5.2 Pro desktop system to 5.5. Only go through this if you run into a .NET Framework installation issue while updating to dtools 5.5. Two out of the three systems that I updated did not have this issue.
One of the prerequisites for 5.5 is Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. When I updated my system, the .NETt Framework 3.5 SP1 install kept crashing with an error. I don't recall exactly what the error number was but it was a general installation error. After many hours of uninstalling, cleaning the registry, reinstalling, I finally found the right sequence of events to get the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed successfully. Note that I do not work for d-tools and I am providing this just in case you run into the same issue that I did. While your mileage may vary, here is what I did to solve this problem:
1: Uninstalled, one at a time, all Microsoft .NET framework installs using the control panel- add/remove programs.
2: Rebooted my system.
3: Ran Aaron Stebner's Automated cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5. Connect to this URL, download and run the tool:
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...30/611355.aspx
4: Download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Redistributable then reboot your system. Use the Microsoft Download Center to find it.
5: Download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 SP3 then reboot your system. Use the Microsoft Download Center to find it.
6: Download and install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package then reboot your system. Use the Microsoft Download Center to find it.
7: Download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 then reboot your system. Use the Microsoft Download Center to find it.
8: Download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 then reboot your system. Use the Microsoft Download Center to find it. Note that it is unnecessary to install any of the .NET 2.x framework as .NET 3.5 is built on top of the 2.x framework.
Now you are ready to go back to the dtools 5.2 Check for Updates function and update your system to 5.5. While this does seem like a lot of work, it should be less than the time it took me to figure this out.
