Question CR XI - OLE Object or Paramater Field - Image

Here’s some background:

I have created a series of custom client report in CR XI. On the cover page of my report I would like my report to update my customer logo automatically from a file location or have a parameter field dialog box asking for the file location.

So far no luck at all.

I have inserted an OLE object to reference a location for the logo BMP to place on the report when it is run.

When I use an OLE object to reference an image from a specific folder (C:\Client_logos\clogo.bmp) and checked the Link box so it would refresh. It doesn’t refresh. I added a table with an OLE image object to my dbase, but it doesn’t work either.

Any suggestions would be great.

I like the idea of a OLE object linked to a file location, but would love for a parameter dialog pop-up to ask for the file location when the report is run.

Any suggestions???

Take a look at
New Crystal Contract Report
this is a contract that uses four Word docs in a particular folder to produce the contract generated by Crystal. It may help.

Also, I do include sales person signatures in our sales reports. You need to add a table to the DrawingTemplate file and modify the query to access the appropriate logo. One of these methods should work.

Let us know what you discover.

Must be a Microsoft thing. I was able to make this work by importing the logo into Visio then using Page Setup to set the page size to the size of the logo. Saved as a Visio file. I know Visio, Word, PPT etc are OLE objects, not sure about bmp.

Default Solution - Work Around

I was able to drop a image ( BMP, JPG, and GIF) into a Visio file and use it as a OLE object. I create a sub-report called C_C_Logo and placed it in my main report page at the resired location. Had to tweek my size and shape factors a bit, but was able to get it to update each time the report was run.

Thanks, I 'm sure others others may be interested in the same technique. I'm told this will get easier with V5 due to changes in the reporting tools and process. Good news... you will still be able to use any V4 custom reports in V5.

Talking Use OLE Word File

I have found that it is much easier to do the following:

1. Create a Word Doc taht is around 5"W x 3"H.
2. Drop a client logo into the Word Doc and save.
3. In the report, add a linked OLE to that file, size to around 5x3.

Any time you need to change clients, just drag a logo in the Word Doc, save the file and run the report. This way you do not need to resize your image file each time. It is auto sized in Word.
