Question Inserting system problem

So, in a couple of other threads, I was pretty active with working on ways to copy a system. And what I use the most often is creating a new project with visio file, then insert a system. With 5.2 I could do this and the component IDs would be the same. Now with 5.5, when I insert system it plays D-tools boggle on me and Component IDs are assigned completely different that before.

Does anyone know of a setting that I am overlooking?

i would really like it if i could insert a system without all the component IDs getting lost. hope its possible. seems like they get reassigned in 5.2 as well, though.

In both 5.2 and 5.5 the ComponentID(s) are re-generated for each product based on the CompID format of the current project. Currently there is no way to get around this. Keeping the ComponentID the same as part of Insert System can be considered for a future release.
One way you should be able to keep the ComponentID the same is to do a "Copy Project" in Navigator. This will copy the project to a new project and all products will have the same ComponentID.

Default "Copy Project"

I have copied a project one time, and I must say that was the worst thing that I have ever done within D-Tools. The two projects were tied together in such a way that they were updating each other and would not load properly into quickbooks. I would make a change on project A and it would change project B. Then I could go to project b and it would change project a.

We have discussed copying vs. inserting in length. it seems that others have had problems with the copy function. Is there a special proceedure or a setting that needs turned on?

Thanks

Travis,

The Copy Project issue was a bug a while back and has been fixed. When copying a project via Navigator the copied project has a new GUID (unique identifier) and this now fixes the bug you mention.
Please test the Copy Project first if it works with a test project first and if OK do let me know.

Thanks for the heads up Naresh,

I will give it a shot on a test project. But this may take a few days. Since the last time we copied a job was a disaster, I will need to run this up the flag pole first.

Thanks
