Default Rename Project File

Ok, I am wondering how to rename a project file. I created a project finished it up and then realized I named it wrong. I would like to go in and change the name of the file. I went into my d-tools project file and changed it there but I need to change it in my project list somehow so it will access the right one. Is this possible and how do I do it?

Oh goodness!

Not a good move.

The project file is tracked in an XML document, so its required to change it in there too.

You may not be able to find the project, expect a 'cannot find solution file' error.

Better to just change the name of the project in project information within the open project, and don't worry about the name of the file itself.

Well, I changed it back and didn't get any errors. However, now I am getting a "neener-neener-neener, you can't open this, it is open elsewhere." OK, maybe it doesn't say that exactly, but same thing. Anyway, I have closed d-tools and even restarted my computer, it still says it is open in another application.

I really would like to rename it as the other option projects I am working on are all under other names. Keeping package types together but naming the project a more descriptive name. I tried to skip the step of naming it what I wanted to reference and then going back in and changing the project name, I didn't realize that that would be THE name and I didn't get to choose a different name. (Sigh) Should have known better.

Oh Boy,

I can spin a yarn to explain a quite many things, but explaining how to fix this in a thread on the froum will be like writing a chapter of a long boring novel!

Attached is a copy of the FileMgrCache.xml document from my D-Tool\SI5 Projects File

Open it up and let it blow your mind.

Find this same file on your machine, study it long enough and you can find the old file folder name and change it in all the right places within the document to the new name you picked will straighten you out.

I do not recommend it though unless you really see what's happening in here.

Alternatively, you might want to just copy the original project file, paste it to your desktop, and then import it into your projects and name the new folder there.

Then archive the old project.

If the current project is still locked or 'in use' as you say, there is probably a shadow copy of the project database file in the project folder.

It can be deleted and free up the project for archiving.

If its really important, D-Tools support can make quick sense of it for you and fix you right up - they are excellent!
