Request : Location Description + Snippets - D-Tools Forum

After spending around 10+ Days with D-tools my biggest request would be a Snippets section (Same snippets in all locations) for each description box throughout the program. Id like to have a large database of "Snippets" to add on the spot when creating a proposal without having to copy + paste from another program.

Just take what you did with Scope of Work and use the same database, icons etc, for places such as Location Description, Product Descriptions, Zone Descriptions, etc.

This would be a very cool feature. You could setup typical room/ system descriptions for different project scenarios and reuse them over and over. Would make using this feature so much easier and I think it might actually get used more than the scope of work area.

I personally prefer having a room by room 'scope of work' definition and also for each sub-system or Zone using the Location/ Zone description fields. It really helps break down the scope of work into smaller chunks which are more likely to be read by the client. Describing the performance/ deliverable of each room really gives a lot more personalization to the proposal as well.

Another thing that could be added on to this would be the ability to grab database elements and throw them into these descriptions dynamically, like you can do with a lot of email marketing programs/ mail merge functions.

"The %%RoomName%% will contain (2) speakers and an in-wall touchpanel."

Exactly, we do our proposals room by room and with our "Old software" we could personilze each room as well as a list of proposed items per room.

So yeah a Large database that I could access anywhere within the project.

Even Better idea would be able to have these descriptions automatic with a product selection.

"I select Keypad A, Keypad description shows up underneath as well as price (Like it currently works)But i'm also able to have a Dumbed down or personalized description show up at the top of the page in a summary for the client"

Everything you mentioned is what I need!

So am I the only one who would use this feature? Currently I have to have a word document opened that has my snippets typed out and have to copy paste into the location description box.......

I must have missed this post originally.

I would completely agree. This would make it alot easier to add room specific or category or zone specific information to be added to the proposal that would better describe what the room would consist of or details about the category or zone that would not need to either be created each time or require another program to be able to copy and paste from.

Count my vote as YES
