Default Excel Reports

I keep seeing a link for Excel Reports User guide here in the sticky and on the wiki. I have 5.5 and when I open up reports I do not see an 'Excel Reports' category only client, installation and management reports categories. Is this user guide a relic from the past or is there something funky with my dtools installation?

Default Create Custom Excel reports.

Yes there is an option to create an Excel report. In SI5.5 there are no predefined excel reports.

You can find free excel reports here - http://downloads.d-tools.com/si5/documents/download_reports.html.

Also you can learn about Excel reports here -
http://downloads.d-tools.com/si5/rep...#_Toc197595128.

Note: Make sure you have “Run Excel Report” permission if you are a PRO user.

Hope it helps.

Thanks, that was a giant step in a productive direction. Would you have any ideas on how to create an excel report with a filter? I need to generate a wire list. I can see how to do it in report designer but not how with excel reports.

For filtering your excel reports - you can apply the filter to the excel file prior to importing it into D-Tools. The filter applied in Excel will remain when the report gets run against your project data.

Simply add a column to your excel data listing using the field 'CategoryType' and then set the filter to only show items with the Type = Wire.

One really cool thing about the excel reports is that you can run them against multiple projects at once - just use Ctrl or Shift + Left Click to select multiple projects in your list and then run the report!

How does this work in the new SI5.5 environment?
The reporting centre is no longer a seperate entity.
Selecting "import report" in the reporting interface brings up a dialog asking for a .zip file.
Selecting my excel report (created using the XML schema) generates the message:
"Input file does not contain the D-Tools report definition file "ReportData.XML"
I got a similar message in 5.2 in the reporting centre. I must be missing a step somewhere, but I have no clue what it is.

Default Importing Excel Reports

When importing excel reports in 5.5, look for an icon on the toolbar (on the Reports tab) to the immediate right of the import report button. It will be a green report icon with a star on it. This is used to import excel reports.

Name your report, set its category and browse to your excel template. The report will show up in your reports list now for use.

Default Excel Reports Permission

If you do not see the button on your toolbar to create excel reports this is most likely a user group permission issue. There is a permission in the Server Administration console for 'Run Excel Reports' (see screenshot).

This permission won't allow you to create excel reports either as the button disappears from your toolbar on the reports tab.

This is a very helpful tool. Is there a way to consolidate the quantities?
