Default Custom Properties in Reports

Are the Project custom properties fields bound to the report in anyway? I'd like to use info defined in these fields within a report but i can only find the proposal item's custom properties.

The project custom properties are not currently available in the reporting XML schema. Including these has been added as feature request #4523 for consideration in a future release.

Default project item properties

Can the datatype for project item's custom property be changed? for example, if i wanted to have more than 3 custom properties as number fields can this be done?

...or if i just put a number in a text field, can it be brought into a report as a number?

No. Custom property data types cannot be changed.

Yes. This is the way to go. You then control the formatting by selecting the textbox on your custom report and choosing the OutputFormat property.

For example, setting OutputFormat = MM/DD/YYYY will display the date as 08/18/2008. Click on the three dots (...) in the OutputFormat property for more options.

Default another feature request

This is really a tangent to try and work around the fact that project Custom properties are not available in Reports but it would be nice to change the customProperty datatype. In the event a user wanted to bring the value into a report and make some sort of computation in the report with the custom property value. I suppose there is some type conversion that could be done in VB to make this happen? Im not exactly a VB pro. but selecting the datatype for project OR item custom properties would help with their versatility.

request: select datatypes of custom properties
alternate request: change name of "custom properties" to "mostly-custom properties"

Thanks for the swift reply...

I understand the development team is always very busy but I sure hope this request is not really #4523 on the list if items to implement. I have stated this fact many times in the past but here goes again: data in the datamatrix that is trapped in the datamatrix and isn't allowed to play with the other data in the reporting XML schema is worthless data!!

Thumbs up thumbs up

Project custom properties made the cut and will be included in the Reporting XML in the next release (5.5).

Wait a minute!! I just created a dummy field in a line item detail report that grabs dtr:CustomProperty1.
The values I placed on a few items for CustomProperty1 were returned in the report.

So if the data is there, why can I not use it to sort by?

I was confused about how this works. For some reason I was thinking the section in setup for custom preoperties was a way to label the custom property fields.
I didn't realize they are discrete data fields.
