Is there a detailed tutorial on modifying reports?

I've customised a report which I'd like to add the project total into to (including the amount of tax). I believe this would be quite simple but I'm currently just stabbing in the dark trying to copy other reports with no luck.

Take a look at this thread. It describes the ultility method to return the total project price (equip + labor + misc costs + tax)
