Default Is Anyone Using It? + A Question

The lack of activity in this forum makes me wonder if many are using the orders & scheduling functionality? I'm going to guess that most are not for two reasons, one is that everyone was already using something else (Outlook/Exhange, NetSuite, whatever) and two is that D-Tools hasn't adequately promoted these new features, which are heads and tails above previous versions. On to my question...

Why can't a work order be converted to a sales order? Or transferred to QuickBooks. Basically what I am asking is unless I am missing something, why is complete dual entry required?? If I create a work order and have 20 items delivered I should now be able to transfer that to an invoice in QB. Instead it appears I have to reenter it all over piece by piece as a sales order?? Makes no sense at all! Otherwise I think the new order and scheduling functionality in 5.5 is very intriguing.

BTW, I'm not necessarily saying the order should be work order>sales order. It could just as easily be sales order>work order. What's important is that we should never have to do dual entry.

Have you tried the other way around? Making a work order from a sales order? Usually you have a sales order (a sale) before you send the technicians out to install the stuff.

Like I said, that would be fine (sales order to work order). Is there some way to transfer a sales order to a work order? if there is I can't find it and I even referred to the help manual. I seem to recall that in earlier versions of Business Manager a sales order could be converted to a work order but I can no longer find that functionality. There is even a field after you create a work order that says "use actual hours in sales order" but nowhere can I find anything about converting a sales order to a work order?!

Played with this some more. Does not look like there is any way to convert a sales order to a work order. BUT!...when creating a work order OR a sales order there is a column that shows what items have been assigned to what work order or sales order. So if you sort by that column it allows the user to quickly check off the items that were also applied to the work order or sales order. This could be quite laborious on a really large system and could requite clicking or unclicking (assuming one used the "select all" command) hundreds of items. There should be a way to press shift key and highlight all the lines you want to choose and then select them with one click.

David,

When adding items to a work order you can filter for the Sales Order Number and then do a "Select All". See image below --
filter so number on add items.JPG

This would add all items on a sales order to a work order.

On your other two points --
1. Convert a Sales Order to a Work Order
2. Send Work Order to QuickBooks

These 2 points have been added as Feature Requests.

Got it Naresh, thanks! I looked for a filter but didn't find it. I now see it is built into the column at the top. Very cool. As far as I am concerned this gets me close enough to where I want to be with only very minor inconvenience - that's only a tad more difficult than converting a sales order to a work order.

I was referring to the Adobe manual which is fully updated for 5.5, though last I checked it was a well maintained D-Tools secret, and does not install with the software.

The MAIN reason I am not using any of the project management features is because they only work in a perfect world. And it is fairly cumbersome to assign 500 items to a resource and to even have the tech properly operate on them.

I really do like these features and I think it is one of the best ways to evolve project management. Also improves data and provides pretty good job costing feedback.

If any company out there can assign a work order to a technician to run a prewire, have the exact materials ordered and on time, have the project site be ready to work in, the technician follows precisely to the orders, fills them out and the feedback data is entered by a PM. LET ME KNOW . . . . I'll send you my resume.
