In SI4 I was able to see my shapes with no problem. However, in SI5 I can't seem to find my stencils. Can some please help?

You probably need to get your SI4 Stencils from your SI4 folder and place them into the new SI5 Stencil location... I think the directory should be:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\D-Tools\SI5\Visualizations\Stencils

SI5 has it's won stencils, so don't do this. You'll be reverting to the old shapes.

Can you clarify?

Are you saying:
  • they aren't listed in the Stencil Tree?
  • your stencil window is missing?
  • they aren't in the folder path SIFanatic provided?

Good point. It would be nice if folks asking for help would respond, wouldn't it? I should keep a log of those I try to help that don't respond. Then I could stop wasting my time in the future with those folks. Bad mood? Yeah, I'm cranky today. I've gotta take it out on someone, right?

That's the price for helping out anonymous strangers

You never even know if you helped them out or not.

Okay, I will respond. My stencils aren't listed in my stencil tree. I have just installed a desktop license along with LanSync. Where would I find the D-Tools stencils.

Thanks,

Vic

SI 5 Stencils are stored in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\D-Tools\SI5\Visualizations\Stencils folder. When your Stencil Tree is displayed, you see nothing in it? Just a heading that says "Stencil Tree"? SI 5 ships with a stencil for each Category in the software and two others: "DT Annotations" and "Cabinet Tools". If you choose do download a Manufacturer's stencil, those display as well. If your Stencil Tree is not showing, within the Visio project select D-Tools->View->Stencil Tree.

Once you create a project in TEXT and add a visio file to it, open the Visio file attached to the project and the datamatrix and stencils will load onto your screen.

Right click on the stencil, and select 'Display Docked Stencil' and you will see the Shapes in the stencil.

If you have just installed D-Tools, the stencils are the last thing you will need right now.

Best practice = build a project in TEXT from your database and then drag items from your project to Visio, SI5 will automatically issue a relavent shape, no need to be picking shapes!

Get you database dialed in first!
