Default Link tools sync problem

I had to restore a back up copy of quickbooks 2008 and now when I try to sync the two I get a message that says "quickbooks already has a company file open other than the one you want to work with. Please closse this open Quickbooks file and then work with quicklinks." Under options when I browse for the correct Ouickbooks file that I want to sync to I still get this message. Now even if I open the old copy of Quickbooks and repoint Quick links to it I still get that message. Any thoughts?

I tested this and it works OK for me. After restoring your backup the QBW file open in QuickBooks must the same name and path as defined in QuickLinks. In in QuickLink your QBW file is at E:\Data\MyCompany.QBW - then after Restore the QBW file open must also be E:\Data\MyCompany.QBW (Name and Full Path must match).

To check the full path of the currently open QBW in QuickBooks click File | Open Previous Company and the the company name on top of the menu will be the full of the QBW currently open. This must be the same as the one defined in QuickLinks.

I didn't restore a back up I had to use the backup as my copy because the original was giving me problems, probably not the way to go but I did. I just changed the name of the back up file to the same as the original and checked the path, everything matches and still no luck. Any other suggestions?

You should try and restore the backup. Backup files have a extension QBB and they cannot normally be opened in quickbooks even if you change the extension to QBW.

Try restoring the backup to a normal QBW using QuickBooks restore process and then try and connect to the restored QBW file. Also make sure the path matches after restore and not just the file name (I think you said you checked that).

That is not an option. My office manager(my wife) has been working with the new file, and has done a lot of stuff. Restoring the "old back up" that was connected to quicklinks would undo all of that work. Is there a way to break the link between quickbooks and quicklinks and re establish a new connection

All I think of now is --
1. Normally backup files when renamed do not open in Quickbooks. However since you are able to open it in QuickBooks the file must be OK.

2. I recommend rechecking the path - there must be something wrong there. The path tof the currently open QBW in QuickBooks and the one defined in QuickLinks must be different. Check that carefully.

Not sure what else could be wrong.
