Sounds like one of two things . . . 1) A directory was changed, moved or renamed. To fix the problem, within DT's, check your directory for your new location. 2) SQL is denying your access to the file location. To fix, check all your admin rights, maybe something was reset accidentally. . . . If this doesn't help, someone that is more knowledgable with sql is going to have to help you out b/c I am no expert.

Yes, I was getting this error. I checked my directory assignment, it was fine, turned out our sql manager had messed up some admin rights to the DT's location on the server and therefore could not sync. Even have had projects checked out and been unable to check them back in moments later due to the loss of an admin privileges. It's a simple fix for whoever your network administrator is. . . as long as they know what they are doing.

This is generally caused by the Windows firewall blocking access to SQL. To correct, you will need to add SQL as an exception to the firewall, or you can turn off the firewall. Some Microsoft updates turn the firewall on after you have disabled it. There are instructions to this starting on page 9 of the LANSync User's Guide. The only correction to this is the path on page 12. Then new path of the install is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$DTOOLSMSDE\Binn\sqlservr.exe.

This error also occurs if the server is powered down. Less commonly if your PC is now on a differetnt domain or workgroup than the server. Even less commonly this occurs if you have changed the name or the IP address of the server.

Hope this helps.

Its software that runs on a PC, what could possibly go wrong?

I've been fighting this for a day or two, and Dustin helped me out.

We changed our IP range in our office, and the trouble started. So here's what I learned:

In the LanSync ini file, make shure that the "data source" reference to a IP/ server name does not include "//" at the beginning, since this'll have your application looking for a shared folder, not the SQL database.

It's freezing here in Oslo, so I envy all you California based guys.
