Post Master Table

I understand that my Master Table Database Syncs with the Server's, and updates my local M.T.D.B., I modifiy it, then I sync to the server updating it. My questions; Where is the Database on the Server?

Default Local and server databases

Everyone who uses Lansync has a local Access database on their computer and then the Lansync database is an MSDE database that is not really viewable. You have a small SQL server running on a computer or server and that database is in MSDE format and your local Access database synchronizes with that. I am sure if you had some sort of SQL management something-or-other you could open and view that database. I am not gutsy enough to try it. I always get in trouble when I try to "modify" things!

Default Sql

We are running a full SQL server that is managed by our "IT" guy, and he doesn't let anyone touch the server. I have an idea of how it works, I was wondering where I could find this file for reasons of securing it's location on the server. Did I specify the location somewhere? And What is the file name and extension of the file? Thanks.

Yea, I don't know. If you are using full blown SQL then your Admin would know where that is. I would just tell him that you need him to back it up once a week or something. You have mentioned Business Manager and that has a separate database on that SQL server too. You can do your own backups through the Administration sections of Lansync and Business Manager and store them where you want.

Most good sever-based backup programs can backup a running SQL database. Check with your admin. As for the MasterTable, it is on every machine that has a DT license after you run Lansync. It is almost impossible to get rid of, even if you wanted to. This has saved me a few times.

Default Dat Tapes

We have a secure backup system implementing backups twice a day using DAT Tapes, and then a quarterly hard drive backup. The Admin wanted to know so when he was 'rearanging anything on the server, he wouldn't foul up the connection between the local pc's and the server database lansync.

Everything should be OK as long as the Sharepoint and SQL database names stay the same on the same server. If the SQL files are moved to another server the "lansync.ini" file (can't recall the exact file name) will need to be updated to reflect the change.

Default Manual update of MasterTable

I'm implementing QuickBooks, and to prepare I want to do some maintenance in the Master Table.

here's what I want to do with an update query in Access (to c:\prog...\MasterTable.mdb in the MasterTableData table

Update [QBItemNumber] with MMMMM:OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
by using: left([Manufacturer],5)&":"&left([Model],19)
Update [Discontinued] to -1 where [UnitCost] = 0
Update [Synchronize] to -1

Then, I want to load D-Tools (skip Sync)
Then, exit D-Tools and Synchronize, sending all my changes to MySql.

Somehow, I've got a field in MasterTable called QBItemNumber1. What's that?

What do you think of this approach? I can't imagine editing thousands of rows manually, setting Discontinued to YES, and manually generating QB numbers for over 1000 materials.

I'm looking for validation (or not) of this approach before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance!

Harry

Well,
1) When D-Tools transfers the data to QB it will create the QBItemNumber for you if you like. You set the mask in QuickLinks. (see manual)
2) If you have "inventory" and "non-inventory" parts in QB do not use the ":". Use anything else. The ":" implies a sub item of Vendor, so ALL items within a vendor will have the same inventory status.
3) You need to update QBItemNumber1, no idea what QBItemNumber is used for. Go figure
4) If you plan to update all the users via LANSync, just setting [Synchronize] will not cut it, you must also set GMTDateTimePrice = Now()
5) I would do this after or before hours when no other D-Tools users are active and all Syncs are complete.
6) You can always push your complete database to the server via lansync Admin and not mess with the Sync fields
