Hi paradigm,

I've found that this typically refers to the shared folders (on the D-Tools server machine) not being shared properly. They have to be given full read/write permission for all users. This is typically called 'full control'. If you add a user under permissions called 'Everyone' this seems to be the easiest way to go, rather than each individual user (unless you are using a more advanced user/ permission based system).

It's best if you share each individual folder on the server, meaning don't just share the root folder and tell it to apply permissions to folders and sub-folders. Go through the motions on each folder ('Products' and 'Projects')

They are automatically installed here unless you've directed them to be installed somewhere different:

C:\DTools\SI5\Server

I hope this helps!

Default Help

I moved my LANSync software and databases to a new server and everything is working well except that when I try to Sync my products it gives me the "Invalid LANSync shared folder '\\THEATER\DToolsV5ProductShare'" error message. I have tried everything I can think of and have done a search including hidden and system folders and can't even find a folder that has that name. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jacob

Hi Jacob,

In Vista the product share must be accessible by the “Everyone” group (by default the “Everyone” group cannot access this share). If you have installed SI 5.5 server on a Vista machine try these steps to get LanSync to work: -

1. Go to the Server machine (in your case go to the ‘THEATRE’ machine)
2. Navigate to ‘C:\DToolsData\Products’ path (this is the default product shared folder path for Vista)
3. Right click and select “Properties” of the Products folder

4. In the Sharing tab click “Share”
sc2.JPG
5. Select “Change sharing permissions” and add “Everyone” group to share this folder (by doing this Everyone - non admin users can access this folder)
sc3.JPG
sc4.JPG
6. Set the permission level for “Everyone” user group as “Co-owner”
sc5.JPG
7. Click “Share” and close the window.
8. Now try to do LanSync from the Client machine

Thanks,
Ganesan. B

Invalid LANSync shared folder '\\HHS-SERVER\DToolsV5ProductShare'. Please check with your D-Tools LANSync Administrator

I've checked with Admin [myself] and can't find anything different since I installed 5.5 few weeks ago.

****Update****

Zone-alarm/Permissions issue. I've tried allowing access via program control, any suggestions as to what else to do? Disabling firewall works but does not seem like logical solution.

I'm having the same problem - things just stopped working one day. File on server is shared, all firewall settings are unchanged. I tried with both firewalls off to no avail.

I'm running XP SP3 with 5.5 and latest update applied (had problem before update, and hoped this would fix it).

Any other ideas?

Gurkha & chip7238,

This problem may happens because of Windows XP SP 3 update.

In your SI 5 Client machine,
1. Browse to 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc'.
2. Open 'hosts' with notepad.
3. Below '127.0.0.1' add the static ip's of the machines your are unable to see (That is, your SI 5 Server machine).
4. Below 'localhost' add the hostnames of the ip's you just entered.
5. Save and exit.

For Example:

Hosts File Before Changing

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Let me know this helps.

I was able to, but it required my login to navigate to the server. After doing that, Lansync worked fine. Thanks for the suggestion - I hadn't thought of that.
