Hey Mark,

After connecting to you PC this morning, it appears that this was triggered by the Projects Folder path under the SETUP tab. It was pointing to the same folder as the shared folder on the server. This can cause files to go missing or get changed, hence the "Possible causes are invalid stream or object version change between serialization and deserialization" part of the error.

The Projects Folder under the setup path should always point to a different location LOCALLY on the client PC. See examples below

Shared LANSync Path: C:\DTools\SI5\Server\Projects (on the server running LANSync)
Local Projects Folder: C:\Users\user\Documents\D-Tools SI5 Projects (Vista)

Remember that you want it to be local, because if you disconnect from the network and want to take the work home or to a clients home, you will need those projects to be stored locally (remember to check them out also before disconnecting).

I will escalate this so that we can do some more research, but the temp fix (I know some of you hate this) is to uninstall SI5 and reinstall it, the when SI5 opens back up, go to the SETUP tab and change that Projects Folder path/location back to the default one.

For those reading, this is what we did on Marks PC and it fixed the issue.

Thanks!

So it seems like a routine in programming that rejects a Projects Folder Path that is the same as the server is in order. It would be nice to save this huge headache for users especially considering your comment "This can cause files to go missing or get changed". Yikes! I don't like missing or changed files!

Guess what? Tried to open D-Tools today and I am getting the same error. You can't even use the uninstaller utility to remove the program. You have to go to Add/Remove Programs. Obviously, the root cause was not the project directory issue. Let's keep researching....

One more thing, I am running Windows XP SP2 using Parallels on a Mac. Anybody out there doing the same? Is there a trick Jose and I should know?

Just tried reinstallation and that didn't work either. :-(

I use Parallels on my (totally awesome) iMac at home. I'm not running SI5 on it but if I planned to, I would really look at using Boot Camp. Everyone I talk to says Boot Camp is going to be more reliable since the computer is completely booting in Windows and not Windows encapsulated in Leopard.

Thanks fryeguy for the input. Boot Camp was not going to be very practical for me so I kept beating my head against the wall (Jose put a pillow up for me - thanks) and it turns out I was not properly closing out Windows. I have tested this three times now and it is working perfectly.

Parallels works great for us too. Glad to hear it was a minor user correction...
I know it acts a little tweaky for my wife sometimes. Weird things like Windows is holding the CD drive or a USB device hostage and Leopard can't get at it.
But all in all it's pretty cool to have this power.
good to know I could do the same as I am working towards a MacBook to replace my current Dell notebook.
