Default Migrated Server to new server Issues * Help*

We used to have our d-tools, running on windows 2003 server that was co-located. We have moved our server in house.

The new server is the same os, but faster much nicer machine.

Since the old server had problems doing a backup, i have contacted techsupport and they provided me a link to manually backup the data and move it over to the server, and also install a tool to dismount & mount the data bases.

( link Manually Moving SI5 Server - D-Tools Documentation Wiki )

After i did all this, i was still not able to run the application, so i proceeded to do a sis update client and server to 5.5, now im not able to finnish the update because it wants the username and password for the sql. I don't have this ( i don't think ) is there a way to reset it or change it ?

Thanks.

Jason

I already have, several of them, been going back and forth for 2 weeks now.

Im wondering if i should just uninstall d-tools all together, install it do the updates then manually bring the databases over again.

Only worried about if i uninstall dtools it might uninstall sql and mess up quickbooks.

What is your case number? You may not have Gold Support with us, hence the back and forth with emails. Uninstalling/reinstalling SI5.5 is probably not necessary, the issue most likely lies with the manual restoring of your databases. I assume you have already re-tried the steps to manual move your dbs/attach them/fix login a second time with the same results? I did not want begin troubleshooting this our here since there is already a case open but knowing the exact error message and when you receive the error would be useful info.

I have not tried, a second time yet doing the "dbs/attach them/fix login"

I could try it.

Right now i just did the sis server 5.5 update it went through then it brings me to a screen :

SI5 server configuration wizard

it tells me the data bas server ( (local)\SQLEXPRESSO ) < it put this in it's self

then it wants username and password i have tried many combos but none of the usernames & passwords work.

I am doing this all by rdp as i'm not at the office, but i have access to everything.
'

I have 2 case numbers, do you need / want both ?

Yes, both case numbers would be good so I can review but I can help you fix this here. This actually will require a reinstallation but with an extra step (deleting a folder) to get past this issue. The "SQLEXPRESSO" line was the clue. This issue can occur if the Server Configuration Wizard is canceled vs. allowing to complete during the initial installation.

1. On your SI5 Server, uninstall SI5.5 via Add/Remove Programs.
2. Delete the following folder: C:\Program Files\D-Tools\SI5
3. Reinstall the SI5 Server
4. Manually restore your dbs using the instructions you already have from that post

To address a previous concern, reinstalling the SI5 Server will NOT uninstall SQL Express.

That should get you up and running again.

I will try all this, thank you. Before installing the ( manually databases ) should I update dtools & client first ? I think we have 5.0 on cd and it updates to 5.5.

Thanks

Do you know what version of SI5 you were running before you migrated? Most likely you were on our latest, SI5.5 SP3 but wanted to verify. If you shoot me an email at senos@d-tools.com I'll send you latest downloads for both the SI5.5 Server and Client so you can avoid using an old CD.

I believe it was 5.5, I can log in and look but it will want me to activate it again, not sure how many times I can keep activating it.

( just sent you a email )
Thanks
