Default Windows 7

Does D-Tools 5.5 work with Windows 7? I am looking at getting Windows 7 Professional 64bit to replace XP. Any known issues?

I believe that Windows 7 was not "officially" supported until SI5.5 SP1 update, however I have been using it for the last 3-4 months and everything works great. Windows 7 is a major improvement over Vista and is also an imporvement over XP. Using a 64bit processor also helps greatly.

The only issue that I have heard of is trying to use AutoCad 2009 or 2010. I use AutoCad 2008 and have no issues (in 08 they were only creating a 32bit version). In AutoCad 2009 and 2010 they have 32bit and 64bit versions and from what I have been told you are not able to install the 32bit version on a 64bit machine. That becomes a problem since D-Tools is not currently supporting the 64bit version of AutoCad.

So if you use AutoCad and use version 2008 or less you will have no issues. Then again if you don't use AutoCad - no issues.

I just wanted to confirm that this is correct.

Just wanted to report that I have installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit version with Visio 2007 and got D-tools working on it. I had a couple of issues getting installed.

1. You have to use the SI5.5 Client installer to start with.
2. After installing SI5.5 I did the "Check for updates" which installed a new version of the updater which would not run properly. So I went to the D-tools directory and ran the "troubleshoot compatibility" on the CheckForUpdates.exe file. After that I was able to update to SP1.

Everything has been working fine at this point.

Default Problem Installing SI5.5 on 64 Bit Windows 7

I am glad to hear that someone has done this successfully. I came across this error when installing and did not continue. (See attachment) Any ideas? Thanks.

Jamie

Well first off, call tech support or email support

From the looks of the error it seems that you are trying to install D-Tools 32bit software on a 64bit computer, but I may be wrong. Software engineers like to keep error messages so cryptic - I think it is job security

Jamie,

The latest trial install on the D-tools web site is 5.5 SP1 and this will install a SQL instance which is compatible with both 32 bit and 64 bit machines. If you are starting afresh with a trial I suggest you get the latest trial version.

Your other option is to download the 64 bit SQL Express - check this link on where to get it. This is a free download.
64 bit SQL Express

Once you install the 64 bit SQL Express start the SI 5.5 Server install and in your server configration wizard indicate that you have an existing SQL Server instance and select .\SQLEXPRESS as the SQL instance (this means the default SQLExpress instance on your local machine). Note: Do NOT install a new SQL Server instance as you now already have a valid SQL instance running on your server.

If any of this does not make sense contact support.

Well it seems I have the same problem that Jamie has/had. I notice this thread is just about 9 months old and don't know if he did ever get it fixed which I presume he has. I uploaded the new 64 bit SQL Express driver that Naresh linked to and still was not able to get the sytem to work. I actually don't get the option for the SQL servers to load on my machine from the D-Tools disc. I had this operational on my XP machine that was basicall just a 1 person system. My server and SI5 program were loaded directly on it since I had no reason for anyone else to access the files or program. After my XP going south with a broken screen hinge, hard drive getting slower and slower with issues (already went through 3 of them in 5 years) I figured it was time to get a new machine. So got Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with XP Mode. After following all of the instruction on this thread I still wasn't able to get the SI5.5 to load on my machine in Win7. The only way that I can get it to load and work is on the XP Mode of Win7 but really don't want to have to run it this was as it doesn't allow me to access any of the programs or spreadsheets to email out. I get the same error message that Jamie got when I tried to load the Server software.

I will try to contact Tech Support tomorrow but thought I would start here first.

Thanks for any help,

Pat

Most likely something that Tech Support will need to help you with, but a simple question - have you tried uninstalling D-Tools and re-installing?
