Default remote access

I would greatly appreciate if anyone has successfully configured or running remote access for Dtools. Most of my sales people need remote access. The complaint is that it takes too long for anything to move. (from screen to screen perhaps 5 to 10 minutes) Any specific settings (router settings) i should be aware?

I've done tons of changes to the network. Looked at the DC, DNS, moved all my files from main DC to a different server, i've installed a cisco network (2950 catalyst switches with 850 series router). Everthing locally works great. Remotly... a different story. I will start looking at terminal server but in the mean time I need to know why it is so slow. Running version SI4.

Thanks in advance.

Get Citrix! Works perfect from there.

Default remote access

It has been a while but I did use Citrix about 10 years ago. I've heard that it is no more as MS bought them. Are we talking about Terminal Server?

Thanks

No... Citrix is still VERY much alive and functioning - and no Microsoft has not purchased them. Terminal Services is what Microsoft has currently in Windows server (it's a full desktop though, and it's slower than Citrix).

Running MS Small Business Server 2003 with a Terminal Server and it is useable from home, but there is definately some lag. No where near 5 or 10 minutes, more like a second or two when opening/closing/moving windows. It really depends on your connection speed at both locations more than the router.

There are alternatives like VNC also...

Citrix = High End - no lag... VERY VERY FAST (as if you're sitting at the computer locally). Very expensive - must run on top of Windows Server 2000 / 2003 - must have Terminal Services licenses as well as Citrix licenses (there are alternatives to licensing here as well).

Terminal Services = Medium End - minor lag... get an entire desktop instead of just the application (that will change in Windows Server 2008 - but that's not shipping yet). Built into SBS and Server 2000 / 2003 (admin license only - then you need to purchase additional licenses if you plan on having more than the admin logged in remotely).

VNC & PCAnywhere = Low end - major lag... get an entire desktop instead of just the application... you get what you pay for here...

Works very good as a remote desktop application. They have a program called hamachi, sets up a vpn thru them and I haved used it a couple of times with success.

I would agree with the use of Hamachi. Although I use it currently, it can be temper-mental at times. Remember that the size of the file will dictate the length of time it needs to refresh.
