Default Round tripping CAD files in Visio 2003

I have spent way too much time on this but I have come up with a solid process for getting AutoCAD files in and out of Visio. Please download the white paper for the full details.

This looks like a great tool for those that want to spend $4k on AutoCad or 800 bucks on LT, but what about those of us that don't have those to use? There's no way that we can convince all of the architects that we will ever work with to format every drawing they send using these specifications, so what is the next best option? Could we use TurboCad (100 bucks, available everywhere including Best Buy) or even AutoSketch ($129)?

Not sure, hard to test on all the CAD products out there. However I just tested Visio 2007 for CAD compatibility and it takes care of almost all these issues I mentioned in the article. But you still have to have a DWG file in the 2002 or below format so you still need to convert some files and cleaning them up is always a good idea.

Hope that helps,

Adam

All you would need to view your export would be CAD Wizz. Cost $79...

You can also open a 2006 CAD file and save as a 200LT file that Visio can easily handle.

What about converting a Visio Drawing to CAD. Your Round Tripping starts with CAD I'm just trying to take something from Visio to CAD. When I use the Export to CAD tool all I got were circles where there were rectangles.

Seth Enos and I have worked up a process for exporting an Elevation view, Line View and a Plan view from D-tools Visio to CAD. The old CAD tools is about to be retired.
We will release the how to Video and documentation after the July 4th break. After all we cant compete with the Superman release.
