Default Save a Visie Custom Toolbar So I can always recall it.

Does anyone know how to SAVE a custom toolbar so it will be available whenever I create a new Visio project?

I know how to create a custom toolbar - but I want it to be available (preferrably the default) whenever I open a new project in Visio.

Thanks!

What version of Visio are you running? With 2010 you can create any type of custom ribbon you like as well as modify the existing ribbons and the changes will always be there. It sounds like you are running 2007 or earlier, I don't really remember how it works with 2007 but I could have sworn your custom toolbars are just remembered, and you just select View>Toolbars and select the toolbars you want and they are always there. Are you saying you have to do that every time and that it does not remember your settings?

Exactly! I created a custom toolbar in a project. Named it my special name, and saved it. I could add or delete that toolbar at will IN THAT ONE PROJECT. But when I closed Visio (2007 version), and then created a new project in Visio my custom toolbar was not avalable for me to choose.

I'll play around with it a bit more - but any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks for responding.

Dan

I tried it again and it worked fine for the project I was already in.

But when I went to a different project and wanted to select my custom toolbar - it didn't show up in the list of available toolbars.

Frustrating!

Out of curiosity, have you tried creating a new Visio (non-D-tools) drawing and saving it there, then creating another Visio only drawing and seeing if it sticks? Not saying it would, but worth a try just to see if it will stay in regular Visio drawings.

Tools-->Options-->Advanced-->Put all setting in windows registry.

While your there you might want to go ahead and "run in developer mode"

OK - I'll try that (nothing else has worked).

What does "run in developer mode" do?

YAY - It seems to be working. Thank you, Tim.

(I'm still wondering about "developer mode" and if i should always be working in it.)

Developer mode gives you access to the "show shapesheet" option in the right-click menu of a shape (good place to set precise dimensions of non-dtools shapes AND set exact coordinates for shapes). You can do alot of nifty things in a shape sheet--just dont beta its use in an important project
