Crystal Reports - Database password
While I am a D-Tools v. 3.6 user, I am not sure how many people look at postings for older versions, and I would imagine this question relates to versions 3 & 4; therefore, here goes......
I would like to modify D-Tools reports with Crystal Reports (we have version 10.0 of Crystal) - and I am a new Crystal user - but each time I try to connect to a D-Tools database, I get a screen that asks me for the Database Password. QUESTION: Do the D-tools database tables require passwords to connect to them, and if so, where do I get the passwords?
My Example: I tried to create a new report in crystal. One of the first steps in running the standard report wizard is to "create new connection." Under that heading I selected "Access/'Excel (DAO) and double-clicked. A connection box came up, and the first field was "Database Name" and I selected the C:\programs\d-tools\Si V3\DrawingTemplateV351.mdb database to connect to. I then Selected "Access" as the Database Type, clicked on "Secure Logon" and put "Admin" in the Session UserID field and clicked the finished button. I then received a "Logon failed. Details: DAO Error Code: 0xbd7 Source: DAO.Workspace Description: not a valid password Message, and therefore couldn't connect.
I used those setting to try to connect to the database because those were the database settings in the D-tools "C-Line Item list Price.rpt" report that I have successfully edited in the past . However, any time I try to connect to a D-Tools database, I always get the password message.
Any help in getting started with Crystal Reports as it relates to connecting to D-tools databases would be appreciated. Thanks.

From what I understand the reports were written in version 9 and I am not sure you can modify them in version 10.

We looked into that too. We talked to someone in tech support and they sent us some disclosure form to sign and then gave us the passwords.

Database Passwords
If you contact D-Tools tech support they will have you sign an NDA form after which they will send you the database passwords. Custom reports for D-Tools must be created using Crystal Version 9. If you own a more recent version you can contact Business Objects and purchase the older version for a reduced price.
*Rememeber* - you only need the basic version of Crystal reports which is pretty inexpensive!

Yep, there is a password for the mastertable and it has not changed as long as I have been using d-tools (2.5c). Contact d-tools, they will make you fill out a non-disclosure bla bla and they will give you the password.

Yeah, Go Ebay for V9, with the current D-Tools release. then the upggrade to VX or XI will cost less down the road.
I don't think V3.x-V4.x will work with anything but V9.
