Default Wire Packages

I'm starting to build packages for different cable run types and I'm curious how you guys are handeling new construction vs retrofit locations. Obviously the amount of labor required will be different as well as misc parts like the mud rings required.

Are you building two different packages - one for retrofit and one for new construction drops? How do you handle the different labor requirements within the package(s)?

I have built one package for both. I try to include all parts associated with that particular wire package that cost over $1. Everything else we track in the 1% misc. field. If the job is going to be tougher, we simply adjust the factor by 5-15% depending on the difficulty. I think your putting too much data and packages in front of you to manage and configure on a job by job basis.

Only 5% of our jobs are retro, so maybe your doing something more like 50%, and if you see these extra packages would help you out, I would say give it a try for a job and see if you like the results.

Yes, alot more retro going on here in LA then in OC I'm sure Ours are probably 50/50 retrofit/new construction.

I was looking at the SI5 tutorial and it recommended the same, use new construction labor times on all the rough in wire, then in a project that is a retrofit adjust the difficulty factor for the rough in phase to something like 150%.

I think this is the way to go. That means I can just use one package for both new construction and retrofit work. The only thing left would be the backboxes in which case I can just assign a generic product with an average cost so we can track how many 1 or 2 gang backboxes are needed for a job. I will probably still use the misc field for things like wire ties, d rings, etc.
