Well,
A long detailed explanation is required to explain the overall configuration of how to handle this stand alone, or if the part is in a package.
But, here is the overall idea of what works.
1. Rooms identified in your project should have neams and numbers, like '103 - Family Room"
2. Set your Comp ID schema to pull in the 3 characters of the field Location 'N' where N is the location number (1-5) that room is in in you Location Type heirarchy.
3. When you add a product or package containing the remotely located part to a project, assign the room that the part controls or is part of. (bad grammar - ending in a preposishun - methinks) This will give you a Comp ID like this if you add it to the room '103 - Family Room'
103-CAT-001
Clearly this part is for the Family Room.
4. Locate the part on the plans in whatever room you choose and the Comp ID will tell the story of where it controls.
5. For added fun, reassign the part (if its in a package, check the 'parts can be in other locations' box) to the actual room you want to place the item in. This straightens out the reports, but the Comp ID still holds up by carrying the Room assignment (103 in our example). BE CAREFUL! If you regenrate the Comp ID for the whole project you will then pick up the room (location) name (which is a number) for where the part is now assigned, which may be misleading.
Pardon the typos and abbreviated explanation, its a beautiful day here in California and the Syrah is open and my glass is ready for a refill...
