Default Tax on Purchase Orders

There are two kinds of people in the world: those that leave purchase taxes off of their purchase orders, and those that like to include the purchase taxes on their purchase orders. I am of the latter sort.

Within this category, there are two distinct subcultures: those that live in the relatively friendly tax system of the US, and those that live in the convoluted tax system of Canada. I am of the latter sort. (send money ;-).

Back to the point, I've noticed that D-Tools doesn't include purchase taxes on POs, and I have been unable to find a way to turn that on. I called tech support and they were stumped as well. Maybe it's not possible. If not, consider this a feature request. If it is possible, then someone please tell me which bits to twiddle to get that to happen. It seems that all of the information is available for this to happen if someone can tell me how to enable it.

Thanks!
Phil

Yes, we're a scary bunch up here. We throw taxes around like you guys throw baseballs.

I'm a most evil sort. I'm actually American, but was imported into Canada by a woman foolish enough to marry me. I am now a dual citizen. I can stand on either side of the 49th and lob verbal grenades without feeling out of place.

Have you explored using the QuickLinks interface to the Canadian QB to handle POs? I think the "Purchase Tax Code" amount flows to QB. It may be worth testing.

This is no different than our Use Tax. If we purchase everything locally (low percentages here), than we can have our distributors collect the Use Tax and be done with it. However, we purchase nationally and direct from manufacturers. The Use Tax issue has always been a difficult tracking process for us. If we can enable D-Tools to apply a PO Tax or Use Tax flag to allow for a field to calculate the tax against purchases or not apply so to tax on our revenue, this would great keep the state/provincial tax man away.

If you're not familiar with the issue, ask your CPA -- it's pretty important!

Does QB handle this properly? This seems like a function that should be handled by the order processing system.
