Default File Names

My PC crashed and was able to save some D-tools data. I am starting fresh with new machine ( clean install of SI5.5 SP3 and SI Server with Win 7 Pro) Am I able to replace files ( Contacts, Projects and product data ) by using the copy and paste command, if I recall was not able with projects, but was able to do with contacts and data. If so what are the names of the folds/files and ext.

Thanks

Eddie

I assume that you were running your SI5 Server and the SI5 Client all on this one machine. If so, the data you are going to want to try to recover is your SQL data, which is your "server" data. This post shows how to manually move your SI5 Server to a new machine and lists all the databases and folders needed. If you had projects checked out to you that had been edited when the machine crashed, you may need to re-import the project files (by default located here: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\D-Tools SI 5 Projects) to make sure you have the most recent changes.

If you were not able to recover your "server" data, and were only able to recover your "client" data, here is the deal on restoring. You can manually copy and paste your local product database and images Visualizations folder into the same path on your machine (this will replace your product data, Setup tab data, and all product images, stencils, and blocks):

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\D-Tools\SI5\MasterTable.mdb

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\D-Tools\SI5\Visualizations

Vista/Win7: C:\ProgramData\D-Tools\SI5\MasterTable.mdb

C:\ProgramData\D-Tools\SI5\Visualizations

For you local projects, you will need to re-import them via the "Import a project" function on the Projects tab within SI5.

There is nothing "local" regarding Clients and Contacts, that is "server" data only.

Hope this helps.

I found a backup file (DToolsServerBackup_042610_163513) looks like was backup on 04-26-10. Can I use this to restore files?

Thanks

Certainly. Sorry, I approached this answer from a "disaster recovery" vs. a standard backup/restore. Here is a post that shows you how to move SI5 Servers the way we intended.

I used the "Restore Server" options in the SI5 Admin Console, it did not add my database, projects, and Application settings. Looks like the only thing it did was to restore contacts, service/work orders and the users/groups permissions.

Hmmm...we don't have "partial backups" so the data is likely there. When you restore, the data is "server" based. To get the data down to your local machine, you will want to open MMPD and then click Administration->LANSync->Copy Down To Local. To see your projects, click the Projects tab then choose "Server" from the "Show" drop down menu.

Almost there, the last problem is projects, if I select "Show Server or Archived" projects, get an box with four errors

Invalid column name 'Created Date'
Invalid column name 'Modified Date'
Invalid column name 'Description'
Invalid column name 'Created Date'

Also I tried to import a project, have the same errors but with a statement added,
We cannot connect to the server. You have been made offline, the error is:
Invalid column name 'Created Date'
Invalid column name 'Modified Date'
Invalid column name 'Description'
Invalid column name 'Created Date'
I turned on "online" and still have problem.
click the ok button then it loads up the project, but it will not allow me to check in or out the project, I am able open project.

Thanks
Eddie

Ok, this sounds like either you are not Service Pack 3 of SI5.5 or if you are, the Server Configuration Wizard did not complete. On your machine, run the SCW again by double-clicking on the following file: C:\Program Files\D-Tools\SI 5\Server\ServerConfigurationWizard.exe. Once the SCW completes, you should be good to go.
