Default Duplicate Products

Just wanted to say, I am loving the new duplicate products feature! Works like a charm! and it duplicates the correct accessories!

Yeah I'm stoked on this too, part of the reason I haven't used it much is we like to use the Location ID (Room Component ID) as part of the Component ID (CID) format for items in the job.

Previously, When using duplicate it would auto-assign the CID t the original room and wouldn't automatically change the CID to the room we re-assigned the duplicated item to.

So every time we did duplicate we had to reassign locations to all those items AND then re-calculate the Component ID's on all those items to reflect the proper location!

This feature saves a TON of time!

I duplicate things all of the time and so far the new way of doing it is wonderful. It streamlines the process and eliminates a lot of other work.

The only way I can think to make it better would be to have a quantity check box next to each location. For example, that way I could pick 1 speaker from an existing room and, using duplicate, assign however many of those speakers I needed to the appropriate rooms, all from one DTools screen!

Oh nice idea! Hadn't thought of that, but definitely would be the icing on the cake!

I like to use duplicate because if I assign a special price to an item for a particular project, that special pricing is carried through each time I duplicate it (in that specific project).

It also good for wire runs with particular accessories.

Do you think you would really have much use for selecting specific quantities to specific locations all in one step? Can you give more examples? I'm not buying in on the copy unique quantities of speakers to different rooms example...
Don't get me wrong though. I do like the idea in concept I simply don't like adding features unless they are super useful.

OK - Example:

I want to specify a set of component video baluns to 8 different locations. Some of those locations will need multiple sets (for a TV & Blue Ray player), and each balun in the specific location needs its "mate" in the core.

So I enter one balun in room number 1. I then hit "duplicate" and the screen pops up. I can then put one balun in rooms 2-6, two in rooms 7-8, and ten in the core. Presto - the baluns for the whole project are taken care of.

Also - there is no down side. You wouldn't be REQUIRED to enter a quantity - it could default to "1" (like it does currently).
