Default installation

Hello all

I am a new d-tools user and like to understand the logistic of this software. As in any software I am used in the past, the software is installed either on my PC1 or laptop and all data is stored within

This dtools has other features that some software don't have like lansynce and so forth

my situation, I have a pc1 at work
I have a laptop which I use frequently when I have home especially proposal.

My question is if i soley use the dtools in my office, i would just install it in my pc1 right, local use all said and done

If I want to use my laptop when I am home, and syn my data when I get back to my office, do I need to install dtools on a separate server? this is my confusion. when they (d-tools staff) refer server, do they mean a real server like with server 2008 software and a separate machine other then my pc1.

I also heard that some users use vpn to connect to the server for data sync. This is very confusing on my part

Thanks for all the help possible
