Default Where is "type" stored?

Never quite understood why this field is not editable in the same way that categories are. We have always had tons of "type" in our database that we don't even use, I am assuming they either ship with the software or got there when importing items into the database. Am I missing something? I know we can add types, can we delete them?

From a database perspective, Type is a field in the masterdata table.
From a MMPD editing perspective, the type seems to be intended as a sub-classification of Category. You can "add" a type to any category simply by entering it in the type field. If ANY item in the category has a Type, then the Type will be available in the drop-down menu. You can "delete" a type by making sure that no items in that category have the Type in question.

David,

Richard's answer is correct.

The Type list is obtained by querying the unique list of types for a category. If you add a new Type for a Category it will appear in Type dropdown next time for that Category.
