Question SI 5.5 at CEDIA

So did anyone see how the new 5.5 version is like at CEDIA? Any thoughts on it? Release dates?

Eh... it was ok.

Looks a lot like Microsoft Project and Microsoft Outlook (which was their goal - and most of it should be able to sync to Outlook as well).

I don't see this as a major release - more of a .1 release - handful of new features with some bug fixes. All nice and heading in the right direction though! We'll have to wait for 6.0 to get excited though!

Default worried

I'm a bit worried.
It seems like d-tools is more interested in adding new features, instead of correcting the list af annoying bugs in the release out now.
We are paying alot of money, but not getting the value back.

This release is also addressing bugs from 5.2. Not just adding new features.

Default release notes?

Any chance on publishing the release notes so we can get an idea of what bug fixes are actually addressed in the 5.5 release? I've seen the doc on new features but, like some others, Im really interested in whats going to be fixed in the bug department.

Default SI5.5 forum section coming soon

In the next couple of days, you will see a new SI5.5 section of the forum. This will include an initial list of features and bug fixes, which will give everyone a chance to give us feedback prior to the release.

When it is ready, I will move this thread to that section.

Also, regarding Bengt's concerns above: the 5.5 release is equally about correcting known issues in 5.2, as well as adding a small number of new, highly requested features.

More to come.

Best regards,

JoseM.
I don't think you are not having focus on the bugs, but my concern is that because of this beeing a major release, a release is delayed, and we have to live with the bugs that is there for a longer time.
Espesially the problem with timeconsuming wireconnecting when working with large drawings. Have you found a solutiun to this issue at all?

RandyB:
Looking forward to review the bugfix list
And i will try to fill inn some more
I find small bugs here and there nearly all the time

Regards Bengt

Yes. There are two identified solutions to this.

The first is a simple logic change that will speed the process up considerably.

The second is giving you the ability to turn the wire checking off entirely. I'm not sure if this will make it or not; if you have any feedback I would love to hear it.

Thumbs down

The ability to turn off the wire checking is vital. SI5 is hosing all our previous and current projects done in SI4.5 that are brought over to SI5 by breaking all my connections on the plans and the schematics. Forcing the issue of not being able to connect a wire to more than one device is huge when we use siamese and bundled wire. Your software is NOT condusive to efficiency or productivity when numerous instances of this in numerous projects have to be manually "fixed". I am curious how the implications of forcing such a change were not thought through. I ask that you not tie the hands of those who know how to engineer a project effectively in an effort, I assume, to make your software more appealing to those who may not. Make them OPTIONS if you desire more mass appeal so that you don't alienate experienced users. Perhaps you could flag wires with more than one connection in a wire audit report so users can recognize the issue and CHOOSE what, if anything, to do about it. I also agree that fixing these issues should take way more precedence over adding more "features" when they are effecting your EXISTING customers in such a way. Thanks...
