Default Deleted Server copies of Projects

Oopps!!

If by mistake we have deleted the Server copies of the Projects is there a way of restoring the projects from a local copy?

Now unable to Check In.

You can re-import the projects back in, and then check them in to the server using a client machine. Or you can try and replace the client folders (Don't copy the FileMgrCache.xml file into the server shared folder). This sometimes works.

Thanks, but now confused. The Import is trying to import to the Local Directory D:\D-Tools Project Data. The Project files already exist in that Directory (this is my local D-Tools Directory).

One other point to note and probably the main cause. when I "inadvertantly" deleted the Server files, in an attempt to tidy up the locations, I also moved the default Shares on the Server to a different path (back to the suggested defaults i.e. C:\DTools\SI5\Server...etc on the Server). I think the "Check In" process is still looking at the original location.

Is it totally screwed?

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\D-Tools\SI5 and find D-ToolsLanSyncV5.ini and open it using Notepad.

You may also want to edit D-ToolsBusinessManager.ini.

You should see the current default path, if its incorrect, change it to the new path for the shared folders.

Thanks, I found the file under C:\ProgramData\D-Tools\SI5 in the end (Vista).

The contents appear correct:

[MSDE]
DataSource=HOMESERVER\DTOOLSV5
SharedFolder=\\HOMESERVER\DToolsV5ProductShare
ProductDatabase=DToolsProducts50
Authen=SQL
DEVUSER=DToolsData
DEVPWD=d7uL8Da7a

The share is still "DToolsV5ProductShare" albeit in a different location on HOMESERVER?

Also, should it not be referencing the Project share as that's what I am trying to sync?

There are two folders, your local projects folder which by default should be under START > My Documents > D-Tools SI5 Projects. This path can be set/changed under the Setup Tab (see image below).

The path under LANSyncV5.ini file should point to your shared projects folder on the server.

Thanks again. However, you have conformed the LanSync.ini file should be pointing to the PROJECTS Share but as you can see our ini file points to the Product Share. Is this the issue?

The saga continues. Now the client does not seem to connect to the LanSync at all, since a reboot. We get the attached message. The server is online!

The Directory to the local Project folder in the Application settings is correct - D:\D-Tools Project Data (this was never changed).

This whole issue has been because I tried to back up all files ready to re-image and revert the laptop back to XP from Vista (Two lessons for you all - stick with XP and don't mess with D-Tools locations once they are set up ).

So, if we have the Local Project files from D:\D-Tools Project Data backed up. Could we simply wipe the laptop now and still be able to restore all data once we install XP, bearing in mind our NEW Product and Project Shares on the server are empty?????

Although I don't think we have the energy to continue with D-Tools if we do end up loosing the data which has taken a lifetime to get to a steady point!!

Make sure that the service on the LANSync server PC is running, even if the server is on, the service could be off.

Go to Start > Run > and type services.msc and press enter. On the new window look for "DTools LANSyncv5 Server" and make sure it has the word STARTED under the STATUS column.

1. Type services.msc and pressnt enter in the Run window.

2. Find "DTools LANSyncv5 Server" and make sure it is running, if it isn't, click on it, then click on START on the upper left hand corner.

3. Try to connect to SI5 again.

OK the Service had stopped. But when I go to restart it immediately stops. If I recall, this is to do with the D-Toolscache.xml file. In the past I deleted this to resolve a similar issue.

However, this time I do not appear to have the D-Toolscache.xml file on the server. Other than the copy in the back up location.

I assume the resolution will be to re-install the server software as well. Now I am getting scared that I will loose months of work.

I have done a back up of the Product.mdb and the projects.mdb - Is this enough? Will a re-install of SI5 Admin console remove all the SQL as well? If so, not sure how to back all that up as well.

HELP
