Just to clarify: provided all projects have been checked back in, to backup D-Tools 5.5, all I have to do is to use the server Backup facility, none of the other various locations need to be backed up. Can you confirm this?

If that is all there is to it, can you not add an ftp server address, username , password and time period (daily, weekly etc), so we can automate off-site backups? As it is, the server gets backed up every week or two (when I remember). During that time, many things are changed and if the server hard disc crashed, we would loose everything.

Writing a backup routine into D-Tools should be fairly easy and invaluable when things go wrong.

Manually backing up :
Vista
C:\ProgramData\D-Tools\SI5
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\D-Tools\SI5
C:\Program Files\D-Tools\SI 5

XP
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\D-Tools\SI5
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\D-Tools\SI5
C:\Program Files\D-Tools\SI 5

Projects (if using the default) are stored here:

Vista
Local: C:\Users\username\Documents\D-Tools SI 5 Projects
Server: C:\DTools\SI5\Server\Projects

XP
Local – C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\D-Tools SI5 Projects
Server – C:\DTools\SI5\Server\Projects
+databases
is simply not practical.

Please give us a better solution.

Jason

That is correct...If you are using 5.5 all you have to do for a full backup is use the backup\restore utility in the Admin Console. It will give you a single .zip file that contains everything you would need to restore your 5.5 Server Components.

What is the real status on this? While trying to do a full backup using the utility in the Admin console last Friday I got the attached error. When forwarded this error to tech support I was told this:
Quote:
This is a known issue that will be fixed in an upcoming service pack for 5.5

So I also assume all my product images are also backed up via the server?

Yes, all product images are also backed up via the server backup operation. Please make sure to do LanSync before taking the server backup.

I had 5.5 SP1 on a Vista Machine. I was sick of dicking around with Vista. So now I have Windows 7 64Bit Pro on a fresh computer.
I had been having severe problems with the database restore feature in the admin console.
I was able to successfully backup the database in my Vista box.
Then when I restore it - it does not put in my company data. I had to also "Copy Down To Local" in lansync in order to overwrite the default d-Tools product database. I was able to get my (hundreds of hours spent on) database back. However, I am not able to pull any of my company information, pricing or any of the classes/tasks from there in the Company Admin setup.
It did pull down my company logo, but no text or company information...

Where is this information so I can restore it from various other backups I have.

You may have tried this already, but sometimes you have to exit out of the SI5 after synchronizing and then log back in order for the SETUP tab to update with the new information. Also, make sure you have full permission to do that in the LANSync admin panel. If you have done all of that, the files to restore that date are found here:

Local client using XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\D-Tools\Si5\ find MasterTable.mdb and also the Visualizations folder (it includes images, blocks, stencils)
Local clinet using Vista\Windows 7 - C:\ProgramData\D-Tools\Si5 find the MasterTable.mdb and Visualizations folder.
