Default Issues with Zones

When I update the Zones in the Application Setup Wizard the zones don't update in the other machine. It doesn't matter if I do the changes in the Server or the client. Also, is there anyway of changing the Zones name to System?

Once you run the Application setup Wizard you need to Upload your Database to the Server. Then all users will run LANSync to keep data in Sync on all machines.

See the User Guide chapter on MMPD > Admin>LANSync

After entering Application Setup data the first time you will use " "Copy Project Defaults" (This should say Application Defaults) Then when each user runs LANSync the setting will be downloaded.

The same is true for data using "Copy Up To Server"

In most cases it is advised to check the boxes "Automatically synchronize" to make sure everyone is getting the most recent data without having to think about it.

As a business rule you should instruct each user to open MMPD each time they launch SI 5. This will force the Synchronize. Otherwise they will need to use the "Synchronize Now" button to stay up to date.

See the MMPD chapter in the User Guide and the install flow chart in the Installation Guide.

Would this means that there is not way to rename them?

You may name the "Zones" anything you like to meet your business model. Some use Zones as Systems, others use Zones to manage proposal options. It is totally up to you. Zones are just way to group data for reporting purposes.

In Si 4 you could change the term "Zone" to any string you liked and the application would show the string in the SI4 user interface. So you could change the term "Zone" to "System" if you like. In SI 5 the term "Zone" cannot be changed. I thought you were referring to this SI 4 feature when you posed the question.

Reed, are you saying I can't use "Systems" in SI5?

YIKES NO! The word "ZONE" in our interface cannot be changed to "System" in our interface. The Zone behavior is the same as V4.6. You can use it to manage Systems if you like.

In SI 4.6 you could modify the word Zone to any word or string you like. So if your organization used Zones as Systems, you could change the name to "Systems". If the dealer used Zones to show proposal "Options", then the word could be changed to "Options". There was never any change in behavior, just how the feature was used by a particular. System is just one or several possible uses for Zone.
