Default As-built Viso Drawings Merged into Visio/D-tools

A lot of our work comes from system rescues and upgrades.

As a result, the technician/PM/sales or somebody goes on site to do an analysis to create site map in Visio(no dtools).

What is the simplest/cleanest way to get the multi page/layer VSD drawing created by the tech into a D-tools Visio VSD with messing up any syncing with DTL file? any way to merge files?

A couple things to keep in mind when merging Visio drawings:

1: Visio performance drops with the number of shapes in a drawing
2: What looks like a single shape can actually be dozens or even hundreds of shapes and grouped shapes.
3: Best practices are to keep the number of shapes and sub-shapes in a visio drawing to as few as possible.

The best way to merge a Visio drawing with D-Tools is to follow the instructions in this post http://www.d-tools.us/3563-post11.html and save as a WMF or DWG before bringing in.

Thanks Head Tool,

My question was not in terms of physical floor plan layouts but more of an abstract system(s) view, eg: network, RF dist, Control System, AV system maps, AC power routing, etc....

Is there way to easily create a DTL/VSD based on a visio drawing with the above described pages/elements?

or

Am i better off just select/drag ctrl-c ctrl-v from visio to dtools visio?
can i have an instance of visio open along with an instance of dtools/visio?

No, you have to start a D-Tools drawing in D-Tools.

Yes, you can have a Non D-Tools and D-Tools Visio drawing open at once and drag from one to the other, just open the non SI Visio drawing first.

you can even select all shapes you want from non-D-Tools visio file, group them, copy to clipboard, make note of the location coordinates (x,y) of the group, then paste into d-tools visio file and adjust location to match previous drawing. this assumes that your templates are the same and your CAD background (if you have one) is in the same location in both.
