Default Frustration

The D-Tools client has stopped working on my system. I have tried the repair option and have erased the program and reloaded and still am unable to open the program. The open screen appears and a message comes up that says an error has occurred and the program closes. I have sent 4 emails over the last week and attempted to contact support by phone but only am able to leave voice mails. We are paying for gold support service and are relatively new to the D-Tools community. I am posting this in hopes that someone might have some advice for us on how to use the program.

What you are getting is a bug in SI 5.5 and this bug has been fixed in the upcoming SI 5.5 SP1 release.

For now please follow the instructions given in the below link to fix this problem.

When Launching SI5 you receive the following message: Root Element is Missing D-Tools Support WikiBlog

Let me know this helps.

Hi Hermanth,

I like the look of the new wiki blog. Nice and clean and useful!

Changing to .old did not help. Jose in support sent a new .config file and now I am receiving a message that "We could not locate your SI5.5 Server. Please check the server name and try again." At this point it has been over a week since we have been able to use the software and we are back to excel spreadsheet proposals. Out of three emails sent I was told only one was logged as being received by support and they responded to that email quickly. I have three machines and each is having the same problem. SI5.5 is great when it is working but with the amount of money we are paying each month to use this software it is hard to believe that I am still using Excel to do proposals.

Are you sure you have renamed the correct the config file? That is, renamed the "System Integrator 5.config" to "System Integrator 5.config.old".

I did. The system now is telling me that it cannot locate the server. Biggest frustration in this process is that it is impossible to actually speak to a tech. Have to send an email or leave a message and wait for their email. Respond and then wait for their response.... I am not usually in the office during the day as I am in customers homes and can't respond until the evenings. The result is that we usually exchange one email a day. If I could actually reach a tech when I'm in the office he could probably walk me through the issue a lot quicker.

All I can say is unbelievable. Will the pitfalls ever truly outweigh the advantages?
I vote for no more features, no more patches. Fix the heart of the matter by abandoning all the legacy code. We want a stable platform that works as advertised and promised. No one likes supporting a software company that year after year can't get it right.

Thank you fryeguy. Sounds like I am not the only one with issues. After the last week and a half of trying to get the program working again my wife is referring to it as a very expensive virtual paperweight. A friend in Tampa is wanting to move into a system like D-Tools. At CEDIA we had a conversation about how much more efficient things were with D-Tools and he was leaning that way. Today he contacted me for my sales persons name and I told him about this issue. He was surprised that calling into support only allowed for the leaving of a voice mail and even more surprised that I have been unable to use the system for this length of time. At this point he is going to do further research on what other systems are available.
