Package Rounding Error
I've been dealing with this rounding error off and on for years. When we do proposals, wire is a a fixed price per drop. Because wire costs are different, I use package discounting to get our different pre-wire packages to this fixed value. When I upgraded from SI4 to SI5 is when the problem started. My packages were coming into the project with significant price differences from what they should be. Some were high, some low.
When I first ran into the problem, Ryan at MED helped me by suggesting that I change my default wire length to zero since the length did not effect our pricing scheme anyway. This helped considerably, but did not fix the problem. At this point, most of our packages would come in with a 1 cent difference +/-. I then edited product within the package to try and balance the rounding errors out. I still have to tweak and modify projects constantly to get these errors out of my pre-wire phase reports.
When we used SI4, we never saw this problem, and we routinely used package discounting with wire lengths of 100'. I've submitted multiple requests for D-Tools to fix this. The last Bug # I've got on file is 4954 if anyone from D-Tools wants to look at it. Not sure what was changed, but in the latest update some of my packages that had been coming in correctly are now a cent off again. So I'm back to spending an extra hour trying to fix packages when I create a proposal.
I'm not even sure if there is a fix for this, and trust me I've heard 100 times to just change our pre-wire pricing... But the builders we've been using for years have asked for this scheme, and the clients in the area here all appreciate it so it's not going away. I'd love to have some input from someone who could help me out with this issue though. Thanks.
