Default Naresh - Maybe?

Hey Naresh. I have yet to determine or find a solution to a server issue I am having. It seems, especially after talking with Dax is that I am the only one with this issue. I will try my best to explain.

One or two users on their local PCs run a report on a project and all is well. Next time they enter back into "reports" they get an error and SI crashes. I have submitted many reports on this error. The error is occuring when SI is looking through all the project grid's projects, locally and on the server, and is encountering a .dtl file that has corrupt xml data. (badly corrupted). The fix has been to just remove the local project files. But when I look at the .dtl xml data on the server, it too is now corrupt. (I dont know if it was corrupt before or it happened during the issue). So now I have to copy my local project files (which aren't corrupt), and overwrite the server files. Everything now works fine.

Any ideas?

Jordan,

The issue of Navigator crashing on reports when a dtl is corrupt is fixed in SP3. Basically in SP3 the reporting grid the corrupt project but no report can run against them. The important thing is that Navigator will not crash for one corrupt project.

However as to why the dtl becomes corrupt that is still a mystery. If you can shed some light on projects which become corrupt - any commonality in them that would help us track down the problem. So far we have been able to replicate as to how they become corrupt in our test environments.

Sometime about November we had a drive fail on our server (RAID5 I believe). After the drive was replaced and the backup restored, everything seems to be back to normal. Except we started getting a couple of these corrupt files. After the second project that had this issue, I went through every .dtl file on the server, assuming the worst thinking that all the files became corrupt from the restore, and there were no other infected files. Since then, we have had maybe 3 different project have the same issue. I went through all the files last night again and found no other issues.

As far as I can tell, it is only occuring on two different PCs. These users (typ) only use their license to print reports. They aren't checking out these projects. Just going to reports and running. This is the only commonality I can see or think of. But what really boggles my mind is, after they run their report, the .dtl file is copied down to their local. The local file immediately becomes corrupt after running the report. And the server file follows suit. They never checked it out, ergo never checked it in. ???
