Default overwriting user preferences

  1. open a non-dtools autoCad drawing
  2. under options > user-preferences, verify that Double-click editing is set
  3. save, close autocad.
  4. open a dTools autoCad drawing

what i would expect:
user preferences are the same

what happens instead:
double-click editing is no-longer set.

please disable any modifying of user-preferences. this is a specific instance, but ANY dtools code that manipulates ANY user-preferences should be re-factored to not do so.
please reply with bug tracking number. Thanks

Richards,

This is not a bug. The "double click editing" works only on D-Tools blocks to open the "Product Properties" dialog box instead of object "Properties" window. Even if the "double click editing" stay set, when you double click on any block or object it will prompt "No D-Tools blocks selected"

If there is someone else that preferred to use "Double click editing" on any object opening the AutoCAD “Properties” window instead of opening the D-Tools "Product Properties" window please reply with your feedback.

vic,

please note: i did not say anything about how double-click operates when editing a dTools drawing. I stated that the user preference are being changed when a dTools drawing opens and are not set back when closing. This is what i'm referring to as a bug. My fear is that other user preferences may be needlessly modified in the dTools "initiation" process and most users would probably prefer that their user preferences are not modified by anybody except themselves. People in my office are upset that they have to reset their user preferences every time they go back to a non-dTools drawing, which happens quite often. they also wonder what else is being changed that they don't know about. I'd like to tell them "nothing is changed, dTools is working transparently with autoCad"...but i can't really say that.

In regards to how the double-click actually operates: We don't mind that double-click opens the dTools product edit dialogue. What we do mind is that double-click does not work for any other autoCad function when editing in dTools (e.g. double-click to edit text). As far as improving the double-click implementation, this is my suggestion:

Double-click on dTools blocks opens product editor (as implemented). Double-click on non-dTools blocks passes the double-click handling on to the autoCad application, get rid of the "not a dTools block" dialog. If we're taking a poll on this suggestion then you can count me + 4 additional autoCad users in my office.

David, Richards,

I get what your point of view and agree. We should not change user preferences at the app level in drawing programs as these programs are not just used for D-Tools work. We will work toward this.

Thanks,

Naresh
