Default fixed labor adjusment

if the cost for a fixed labor item is $0, you are not able to modify the price/cost in the PDM. product must be right-click edited to set cost values.

if you have any cost on the item you can edit in the PDM freely, this would be ideal regardless of existing values.

Richards,

In my testing a fixed labor product I was able to edit the Cost and Price in the PDM in the Unit Cost and Unit Price fields.
If the labor is only Fixed the Unit Cost and Unit Price fields show the fixed cost and fixed price and they are editable.
They would be non editable only if your labor was marked OFE - Owner Furnished Equipment.

I just tried to see if I could replicate your problem and unfortunately I was not able to do so.

I created a labor item with a $0 cost and $0 price. Added it to a project and I was able to change the price in the Data Matrix without having to open the item completely.

you're right...occasionally.
the problem seems to be more of the PDM weirdness issues. If i move the unit Cost/Price columns around they work in some positions but not in others.

I know there's a bug report, if not several, for the PDM acting funky.

Thats interesting...

Just for fun to see if I can replicate it - what column have you found issues with? I will try to see if I can make it happen on my side.

Unit Cost, Markup, Unit Price have consistently had issues for me
Wire Length regularly becomes un-editable then editable again
Often the Zone, Category, or Location drop downs will display selections that are not relevant to the field (e.g. Category giving you the option to select Zones)

I have continued to run into issues with pricing in the PDM and not just with labor items, so bump the post

heres what im doing:
1) add a product, any non-labor product
2) show unit cost, markup, and unit price columns
3) adjust markup (to verify that markup adjustments affect the Unit price)
4) set Unit Cost to $0
5) set Unit Cost to $100 (or some non-zero value)
6) adjust markup

what i would expect to happen:
markup adjustments affect price

what happens instead:
markup has no affect on price

if you play around with labor items you'll find inconsistencies there as well. for instance: cost can be edited with the column in one position but not in another.

there's still an issue here:

although markup is editable in the PDM for fixed price labor products, changes to markup in the PDM are not retained.

Also, depending on the position of columns, setting Unit Cost to $0 in PDM for any item type then trying to change again to a non-zero value fails to retain cost change. By changing the order of columns you may be able to change Unit Cost.
Current columns i have showing that produce these bugs are: Mfr, Category, Model, UnitCost, Markup, Unit Price, Zone, LaborCalcMethod (in that order)

The Margin and Markup do not update correctly for labor products on PDM - this has been logged as bug # 6761.

For WireLength this is editable only for "Rough Wire" - your wire phase must have "Show Headend dialog for wires" checked. This option is setable in Navigator for a phase and also in Project | Options for a project.
