Default Find and Replace

I'm in 5.1 right now trying to do a FIND and REPLACE for packages...

I open up the FIND and REPLACE and select CATEGORY...

This is where is displays all the categories currently in the project as well as all the PACKAGES in the current project.

I can select on ANY of the packages to filter the window to the right... and NOTHING shows up.

What I'm trying to do is change out 12 packages in the project with 1 new package the customer upgraded to (in those 12 rooms). What I see - is the 28 parts that make up a package in the filter screen (like the wire, connector, speaker, touch screen etc...) - but when I select the PACKAGE under the category filter - all those misc. parts disappear and nothing shows up.

Right now, the only other way I have to do this is manually drop a package room by room and delete the old one. This is a $100,000 bid - and it's quite large, thus quite complex...

Can we please get this fixed for 5.2????

The feature set for 5.2 is locked and we are in the final phases of testing.

Find and Replace Packages was one of the features we had on the list that just barely did not make the cut for this release. We understand the importance and value of this feature, so it is something you will see in a future release.

That's too bad - seems this has been broken for a while - just never used it for PACKAGES before...

Not sure how complex your packages are, but you can use find and replace to change the items in the packages that are already in the project.

A cool thing about packages in SI5 that is vastly different from SI4, is that you can open a package in the project and actually change the name of the packlage without creating a new package in the database.

This may help you quickly make the changes you want over deleting packages and adding in new ones.

Yeah we did that... in this case, thanks to decreasing housing market etc... the customer wanted to yank all the touch screens and speakers, but keep all the wiring in there. We have a package for just pre-wire of this stuff, as well as a few packages that include different touchscreens with speakers. We just wanted to search and replace all of package "A" with package "B". A rename wouldn't work (though we have used that feature quite a bit already - thank you).
