Default Packages & Zones / Locations

Few new bugs found here in 5.1...
1) When adding a package and you select that different pieces can be split between zones, you can no longer: Have Multiple Packages dropped into the bid, no longer identify where they are going, no longer identify which zones that should default into. So - if I select to drop 10 packages into 10 different rooms all going into the same zone (say Whole House Audio) - but I choose the option to allow for "Products in package can be different Location / Sub-System) what I get is 10 packages dropped into the UNASSIGNED LOCATION in an UNASSIGNED ZONE. That's it! My other 9 don't get dragged - nothing goes where I told it to.

2) So now - I take the daunting task of moving packages into different rooms & zones etc... and that's where bug #2 comes in. In my example, I have a package that has speakers, touch screen, wiring etc... I like to split the touch screens into CONTROL SYSTEMS (zone) and the rest stays in WHOLE HOUSE AUDIO (zone). So I make that split for all 10 packages in the unassigned room / zones. Now they're still in unassigned room - but now each package is split in 1/2 between two zones. Next step - start moving the packages to their rooms. I grab the touch screen (made up of 1 part and 4 add ons) and tell it to move to DEN. That seems to work OK. Then I grab the 4 pieces (and 2 add ons) that make up the wires and speakers - and tell them to move as well - that's when the next bug comes up. I select all - but what happens is that it only moves the 2 wires, pre-construction bracket and ONE of the two speakers - the other speaker is left behind. So now I'm having to tell this package to move THREE TIMES (first time for the touch screen, second time for the speakers and wire and third time for the left over speaker). Want to talk annoying??

So - bottom line - I'm guessing if bug #1 gets fixed, bug #2 won't be that big a deal (at least for me) - but because bug #1 is now broken (and it didn't used to be) - now bug #2 is VERY annoying - not to mention taking me HOURS to do projects now - that D-Tools sold us on the idea of "make packages = save time".

I hope this can be fixed (please?) by the next service pack???

Shawn,

#1 is definitely an oversight/bug and we'll take a look at it for the next service pack. Reference #3101.

For now, the best way to do what you're trying to do is to leave the "Products in package can be different Location/Zone" checkbox UNCHECKED when using the Add Package dialog. This will cause everything to be assigned to the correct location and zone. Then, you'll have to go into each package, set the checkbox, and then change those products that have a different zone. I admit this is a pain but certainly a lesser one than what you're doing now.

Note that the second part of this (changing the zone) is inevitable based on what you're trying to do, but if you use the filter feature of the PDM wisely, can probably be done for all products you need to move at once.

Regarding the error you had assigning products in #2 (where one speaker did not get assigned), I was unable to reproduce this but will tell the QA staff to keep an eye out for it.

Sincerely,
