Default Can't check out project

When I check a project in and then try to check it out, I get an error: "Check Out failed. The project 'Arrom New Home' checked out in LANSync database to user ID: [1] Name: [Sunni]." Okay - that's me and I just checked it in, how can it still be checked out to me? It's not highlighted, I tried rebooting my PC and everything looks correct in LANSync. So what's the deal?

I'm afraid to check anything else in for fear I won't be able to get it back. I just installed the software recently and actually haven't done any real proposals yet. I've been spending every waking moment adding and updating products (I'm really tired). Anyway, I don't want to start a real project and then not be able to check it out and in.

Please help.

Well, I see lots of looking and no solutions so I guess I've stumped everyone. But, it gets even better!

I went to my husband's PC and logged in under his name and that project shows up twice! Both have the same project number and neither can be checked out. And when I try to check it out, it says it's already checked out by him. I go back to my PC, log in and there are 3 projects with that name! WTF!!!! So I got p**sed off and decided to delete the project entirely and start over. I went to the project folder and deleted that customer and thier files. Here I am all proud of myself, until I log back in. The project is still there and I still can't do anything with it. I go back and delete it again, empty the recycle bin, log back in - still there! It keeps recreating itself. Like it thinks I don't know what I'm doing by trying to delete it. Then my husband started messing with it and NOW the whole program is hosed. If I click on the stupid project, dtools shuts down.

I gave up, downed 2 shots of Tequila and went and watched the football game. I don't even want to open the damn thing today. I guess I'm just going to have to call Tech Support and have them beret me for my stupidity.

Digi,

It seems we are kindred spirits lately.

I guess you know this by now, but you should never ever delete the folder to delete the project. For some crazy reason, there is no way to delete a project, you can only archive it. As for your Check in Check Out problem, I know there used to be a very useful feature to resolve those conflicts. I cannot find it and I'm not sure if it was deemed "Too Useful To Actually Leave Alone" in this newer version. I have a few possible suggestions for you though. Make sure that your software is updated on BOTH your client computer and your Lansync Server. The LanSync server is a manual update that you have to activate from the START---->PROGRAMS ---->D-TOOLS menu on your actual server.

Idea #2 : Make sure that in your main D-Tools Navigator wando that you are actually connected to the LanSync Server. This caused a problem for me with check out before. If you go to the top of the screen to the "File" item there should be a menu item that says "LanSync Online" Make sure that is checked.

Idea #3: Become an accountant. It's easier.

You may have done some damage to that project already and it may always be a nagging item on your projects screen, but hopefully it was just a test project.

And just a reminder....don't try to do anything with the projects folders!!! you may need to also invest in another bottle of Tequila!! Good Luck!

I checked both machines and they are both up-to-date. Thanks for the tip though. Yes, the project was a test project so no big deal - I just don't like it on my screen. (I'm a bit anal retentive). I actually have a project I archived by mistake (also a test) and when I try to check it back out I get the same user error. I finally put a call into tech support and left a message. Hopefully someone will get back to me before I have a nervous breakdown. It would be nice if archived projects went to another window or something. They shouldn't clutter up the window that active projects are in. It's just too much stuff. I think I'll post a thread about that in the suggestions.

Tech support got back to me. I had installed my software on an external HDD. Big problem. It must be installed on the C drive or can't find projects. So I am currently uninstalling and reinstalling everything.

I'm currently having some big problems when it comes to check in and out projects. I can't see a project after checking it out then, I have to force undo check out from another user's computer in order to see it again on my Project Grid.

Besides, if I look into my D-Tools Projects folder once I check one out, .dtl and visio files are correctly there...!!!

Even more: everytime I check out a project SI5 crashes. I run it again and the project I just checked out is invisible...!!!
On another user's computer it can be seen as checked out to me.

Everytime SI5 crashes it says its due to the "timeout error". I tried to run the SIConfigFileUpdater that Tyler Ekeledo uploaded here: Timeout error - D-Tools Documentation Wiki as suggested by the error report but I have been able to run it successfuly in just one user's machine; server and my PC don't accept the update. It says "D-Tools SI 5.5 client (& server) config file does not exist".

My PC as well as the server are DELL Precision T5400 (Win XP 64bits), the other user's laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium. Does this have something to do?

what could I do?

Firstly I would repair/re-install the software. You might be having a crucial file somewhere. This will fix that. Then, check your project setup. Make sure you are targeting your actual project directories. If this doesn't work, let us know.

Already "repaired" (re-installed) the software...

Same thing...

Just to make sure, when you Check Out a project, you are switching to view your Local Projects right? See image...
